LSP_Kevin Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Howdy folks, I've just published my review of the Halberd Models SC-1 resin kit: Halberd Models 1/32 Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk I've also started a build thread on the model in the forums, though no real work has been carried out so far: Enjoy! thierry laurent Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Excellent review Kev. One minor correction if you don't mind: the 'bomb' is actually a radar pod. LSP_Kevin and Martinnfb 2

I did wonder whether it was actually a bomb, but couldn't find any information on it in the time I had available. Will correct! Kev thierry laurent and Martinnfb 2

Will correct! Kev Well, there are not a lot of relevant references for this quite elusive topic. Hopefully Steve Ginter covered it in a quite good issue in his naval planes series. This is surely the best one to recommend! Martinnfb, LSP_Kevin and LSP_K2 3
Dennis7423 Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 (edited) Excellent review! Looks to be a real gem. From what I've read, removing the rearmost windows on the sliding canopy had to do with wind buffeting, if I recall. - Dennis S. denders Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Nice review Kev! The kit looks really nice! I have a partiality toward float planes (not sure why), so I have the Ginter book. Lots of good photos if you're going to really detail it. There are a number of photos showing the rear most canopy panes removed. I haven't re-read through the book to confirm Dennis' explanation. There was also a fixed gear version too. Martinnfb and LSP_Kevin 2

LSP_K2 Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Nice review, Kev, it looks like a great kit. LSP_Kevin and Martinnfb 2
LSP_Kevin Posted May 7, 2023 Author Posted May 7, 2023 Regarding the missing canopy panes, Jeremy Moore provided the following information on Facebook: Quote In regards to the two missing rear canopy panels/panes often seen in reference photos…it was discovered that when the rear canopy was open during flight (which is standard operating procedure during takeoff and landing) severe buffeting would occur and apparently in several cases the canopy departed the aircraft. The fix was to remove the two aft panels allowing air to flow through the canopy. Kev LSP_K2, LSP_Ray, Uncarina and 2 others 5
thierry laurent Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Mine arrived today. This is really a beautiful model. I was amazed when I saw the city name on the parcel postal stamp! Martinnfb, LSP_Kevin, Uncarina and 1 other 4
Out2gtcha Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Got my copy when I was away on holiday, and WHAT a kit it is! Such a crisp and detailed kit, it really does seem like it will be a joy to build. Uncarina and LSP_Kevin 2
thierry laurent Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Hi, There are some aspects you should consider to build a better model. Here's a mini tweak list: - add the two float rudder control cables - add the radar pod connection cable - add the canopy opening chain - add wire antennas - drill engine exhausts - drill deeper the machine gun muzzles - add details on the engine front (copper and lead wire) - add missing details on the LG legs - add correct sway braces on the empty pylon - add the movable chart board in the IP slot - add missing wires here and there on the side consoles - add the three colored ID lights (red-green-amber) under the starboard wing - interior should be fully painted in Curtiss interior green with black boxes, console details and IP.
