The likeness of the kit decal to real thing is actually surprisingly poor.

Kev

Kev, no kidding there,  once I get it down sized I’ll then have to upsize the bombs.  I discovered the issue when I cut out the decal and bomb markings, placed them on the model to then realise it was all off. Still hoping to get them bombs painted on today, the outline of the phantom tomorrow, fingers are now officially crossed…

Motored along today and got this far, the 1 Man Army masks were used. Still need to paint the ice cream on top of the cones, try to free hand paint the 3rd cone in too.  The DFC diagonal stripes were the wrong way so cut thin strips of tape and angled them to the right as seen in photos.

Are you free handing the Phantom?

Yes, I’ll make a mask of the outline of the clouds, head, moon and bombs, gently spray a off white colour and then free hand in the details. My most difficult area to me will be the teeth I believe.  Haven’t figured it out yet. To me the actual art work looks a bit crude, my only wish is I would have loved to know the actual colours. Was the moon yellow, the lettering? It’s tempting to use some artistic license. I’ve seen artwork that’s depicts more colour and it sort of makes sense. Still hope to beat the deadline….

That is really looking nice - amazing attention to detail

What colors did you use for the Green and Dark Earth if I may ask?

That's really, really nice. Love your beautifully painted crisp colours and finishing.

Tempted to do the full-bodied version now?

I used Tamiya Dark Green mixed with a bit of Tamiya flat white, then sprayed another layer over the template with a tad lighter shade.  I did this in random areas of the green. It doesn’t show up well in most the photos but in the normal light it’s easy to spot. Getting close to the weathering stage, and I have no idea how to do it.  The Dark Earth was mixed using Tamiya Khaki, and Tamiya Flat Earth. It’s a bit light to me but ain’t no way I’m going back now:D

Thanks, after building the nose section I’ll take a pass on the whole model. I scoured the net for other builds trying to gain any tips and insight. But I’ll gladly follow your build…

Ok,  calling time on this guy as finished. When I set out on this journey my goal was to just simply finish a model, it’s been years (7+) for me. Credit for the whole idea goes to LSP member Finn, way back on page 2 it was his suggestion which sent me off on this direction. It sure looks interesting and cool to me, Thanks mate.   Here’s a few pics I’ve taken.
