Hi Richard,

Neat progress on your big Spit. She's looking great.

If you're not sure about weathering you could consider water based products. Artists watercolour pencils or dry pastel powder can work nicely. Until you seal them in under the final top coat they are easy to remove or manipulate with a moist cotton bud. Lots of shades available at reasonable prices. Ideal for the staining on wing roots and fuselages.

Keep it up.

Cheers,

Guy

Thanks for the kind words and sage advice Guy..

Stencilling all done (phew)

Just got to hang all the fiddly bits on now and finish the weathering - exhaust stains etc.

I'm quite pleased with the 'lived-in' look I've managed to achieve - which the iPhone photos don't really do justice to fully.

Another thing the photos don't really get across is the sheer bulk of the model - it's quite a lump!

Here she is with the Eduard 1/48 scale version of the same aircraft I made a few years ago!

Overall, a really lovely kit to build.

I've got a few more and will try and improve - I want to use the 1ManArmy paint masks rather than decals.

I'm not entirely happy with the colours, even though I used the exact Humbrol colours as per the instructions! The green doesn't look quite right to my eye.

I'll use the MRP or Tamiya versions next time - they look better I think.

But am I happy with it, as a mediocre modeler, yes I am!

:clap2:Congrats Richard! Looking every bit like a Spitfire.
The contrast between the green and the grey looks quite right to my eyes. Of course they’re not as faded and worn compared to its smaller counterpart but every airplane has the right to be fresh and new at one time (like us all :P ), doesn’t it?

I can feel your enthusiasm completing this oh so big project. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Cheers,

Quang

Wow, this is absolutely stunning!
It’s true that a 1/24 model gives a lot of volume and realism.
You did a really good job and it shows in the pictures.

The colors seem to be perfectly faithful and green does not shock me.
All you have to do is buy a 1/1 Spitfire now!
