MikeMaben
Started this years ago (2010 ?) next in line for my recently passed SOD REDUCTION ACT. A lot of trailing edge reduction, needed a spacer in the rear fuselage to get the ventral part to fit, made a mold for the missing doghouse bulkhead ... scratched a seat and frame (didn't use the frame) ... Anyway, it's about 90% done so I thot I'd post some shots of the fruits of my labor I used a mask set from AML of the Czech Republic. MRP Earth first, I thot was a little dark so I added a fair amount of yellow and a little white. Then the masks, then MRP Dark Green that I added a little yellow to as well, after which the demarcation lines were a bit too sharp for me so I went back and softened up the edges and did the usual touch ups. I got the Rotol spinner and blades from AIMS (before John Mcillmurray had his hand surgery) very nice resin. Painted the spinner Night which used MRP Black and added some blue that was somewhat close to cobalt . Next up are decals. I'm going to try a method I thot of when I did the Jersey Jerk, painted a white decal sheet with the colors I will need and cut them on the Silhouette. No silvering, just paint. ...wish me luck . Greif8
Good to see a build thread by you Mike! I think your progress so far looks excellent Very innovative idea using the plain decal sheet, paint and a cutter; I look forward to seeing the result. dennismcc
It's nice to see another Hurricane and especially nice to see a PCM Hurricane being rescued and finished off. The decal idea looks interesting I am looking forward to see the results. Cheers Dennis Edited January 11 by dennismcc MikeMaben

MikeMaben
Thanks for lookin' in men. Got the decals on and learned alot about what 'not' to do. If there's not a good sealer on them they crack apart (duh). I used a new (to me) product called Mr. Super Smooth Clear matt. I'ts finer than usual and suppose to reduce the conditions that cause silvering. I haven't used it on the applied decals yet but it does look quite nice and levels the surface and improves the looks (again, to me). Also, I need to nest the images and reduce the amount of paint used. I wasted a bunch. In the markings of 32 Squadron, pilot M.N. Crossley , circa BoB. I couldn't find my good 'ol Solvaset so I used Micro Sol/Set which didn't do the job as well. Still some touch up ahead but it's looking like an airplane anyway. 'Til next time ... Greif8
Decals look good Mike, and I really like how you have toned down the colors. The aircraft you are building belonged to a storied squadron and had a very interesting pilot. No. 32 Squadron was very heavily engaged during the opening and mid-phases of the Battle of Britian, flying out of Biggin Hill. If I remember correctly Crossley started the battle as a Flight Lieutnant in the squadron and was promoted to Squadron Leader sometime in August and took over command of it. I know he was a double ace during the battle and he had shot down several aircraft during the Battle of France. I believe he was also shot down himself once or twice during the Battle of Britain. MikeMaben
Thank you Max. Wow, Ernest , you know more about 32 Squadron than most. Do you have a book regarding them. I've always liked the giant markings in that period of the battle. Yes Crossley was shot down in this a/c (serial N2161) and was unhurt. I'll be cutting a stencil for the serial. Thanks for the info. Hi Mike, I have quite a few books that cover the Battle of Britian as well as a lot of primary source material. Years ago my capstone paper for my undergrad degree covered the development and functioning of the British Integrated Air Defense System prior to and during the battle. I have always had a great deal of interest in the battle . Ernest MikeC and MikeMaben 1
