Hawkwrench Posted December 3, 2023 Author Posted December 3, 2023 Tonight, I scratchbuilt a tow bar using .035 lead wire bent to shape and painted red and glued it to the baggage compartment floor(where it usually goes). Afterwards, I painted the exhaust headers a hot, rusty look and glued them to the exhaust box. I can finally say the engine assembly is ALMOST done! Comments and critiques welcome! I scratchbuilt a storage case and painted and weathered it to look like a well used wooden box. I found some 1/24 3d printed prepainted oil quarts on ebay and the shop rags are painted lead foil. ChuckD Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 What a cool build. I've often thought of recreating some of the chickenhawks I used to fly. Too bad this kit is so hard to find. Back when I was flying a lot, my FBO had a C-172N on the line (N6370D) that was just beat. Inside and outside, it was scratched, dented, cracked, and torn up. But man, did that airplane ever want to fly. It'd hop off the ground in a heartbeat, fly like a dream, and landed as smooth as glass. My only comment is that you seem to have missed the part where Cessna carpet always turns baby shyte yellow- brown with time, no matter what color it was when new. Shoggz and John1 1 1

Nichimo gives you 2 sunvisors, and wants you to just glue them the the top of the fuselage, but I opted for some more detail. I scratchbuilt an overhead light/map console with the speaker from sheet styrene and PE from my spares box. The speaker grill is a seat cushion decal from a 1/48 F-14. I also uses some lead wire and L shaped styrene for the sunvisor mounts and finally glued both of them together and onto the cockpit ceiling. Till next week! Hawkwrench Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 (edited) Wow, How 2 years has flown by. I've had a long break from my hobby due to ALOT of things going on mainly a new job changing everything up. I've been SLOWLY plugging away at the 172 and tonight I finally was able to get the decals on and spray a gloss coat on it. But now I have to wait 2 weeks till the next bench time. You'll get more progress pics as I have resumed this build. Kevin, I've forgotten how you edit your build title. How do you change it? Comments and critiques welcome!
