Guest LSP_Jay L Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Hi Guys; I've been tinkering with this kit for a little while and have basically prepared all of the parts and cleaned them up so now it is ready to go. I started where else, but the cockpit. I hope I am not overstepping my boundaries as a moderator here, but I think this is a very nice model. I realise there are those out there who feel that as a moderator we are not allowed to voice opinions so I will try my best to be completely devoid of an opinion from now on less I risk offending those higher strung members. Oh geez...I hope I didnt offend anyone there. So here we go. The first pic shows the layout of the cockpit parts and displays something I hadnt noticed until construction was underway. I had two rear armour plates and no foot trough. A quick phone call to MDC had this sorted faster than I expected so thumbs up to some excellent service from the fine folks at MDC.
Guest LSP_Jay L Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Here we have the cockpit about midway through completion with some of the parts painted.
PietvWdV Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I am so glad you started this build dude! I have been angling for this kit for my birthday for weeks now! I have even put the link to MDC up on the fridge I am going to hang on every post here. Tallyhoooooo!!! PS> If you haven't got IL2 Forgotten Battles the flightsim yet, I suggest you do. In the latest update is a flyable Typhoon with the most exquisitely detailed cockpit ever snuck into a computer game If you don't have it, I'll be happy to post you some screen shots, it is really special. The floorboard looks lekka!
Haggis Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Jay For the mag? I like what you have done so far with the shading of the paint. It's going to be awesome. Please let us know your opinions as we are all (in the main ) grown up here. I'd hate to see a Hyperscale handbags at dawn thing here. LSP is a place of tranquility and long may it remain. I keep away from Hyperscale Plane Talking or whatever it is these days because of the.................. Here is the new Tamigawafix XYZ and here is a list of the things I reckon are innaccurate......... Blimey, the kit has only been out a day and you are crucifiying it already Actually I was only pointing out a few things that might be of use to others  When was the last time you made any model  Pot Kettel, You stink  You stink worse And so it goes on. Sorry to jump in on you thread mate but please give us a personal opinion as £60 is a lot of cash on any kit let alone a resin job. P.S, I have seen that thread here.
Hacker Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 now if memory serves me correctly the typhoon had several changes made to it over its service life.Besides the bubble canopy it also had a four bladed propeller add and the horizonal tail was replaced with the larger tempest type. Now of all the after market upgrades and such was there anyone who had made the tempest tail feathers for the revell kit?? hacker
Guest LSP_Jay L Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Thanks Sean! Right you are Hacker. There were several changes made to the Typhoon, as it had an unillustrious start to it's career due to some teething problems. The prototypes had a tendency to break apart and suffer critical airframe failures, and early variants also suffered these problems on occasion. Luckily though, everyone involved knew they had something special on their hands and they perservered, starting a line of aircraft that culminated in the Sea Fury, and accounted for alot of destroyed enemy aircraft and ground targets. The tailplanes on the latter versions were the same as used on the Tempests, and there was a mixture of 3 and 4 bladed props with the bubbletops. Checking the photos you are using for reference is important to find out which will be appropriate for the particular version you want to do. The good thing is that the cokpits remained basically the same down to the seat right up to the Sea Fury, and only minor changes are needed aside from the obvious engine and fuselage changes. I am sure that these tailplanes can be used on the Revell kit if MDC should decide to release them on their own. I will have to check the fit though, as by making that statement I am being purely conjectual. Jamie; Indeed this is for the mag, and thanks for the kind words. So far the model is superb. everything a resin kit should be and then some. Brian Fawcet has done a spectacular job on the masters, and I can't really find any fault with it overall. the only problem I found thus far was that some of the instrument decals do not fit in the appropriate bezels, but this is a minor inconvenience and will only bother those particular with the minutest of detail really. I simply put in the decals that fit. they still look good and I am happy with it. Looking at the kit overall you couldn't really ask for much better value for your money at £60.00 as some of this model ( wings in particular ) is simply breathtaking but we'll see in more detail as I go along. I hope to have the fuselage closed in the next day or two, and the test fit shows that this should be fun, but it isnt anything we shouldnt be able to cope with after building all of those Mongram kits as kiddies. I understand exactly what you are saying about Plane talking and do not worry about speaking your mind on my thread mate. I completely agree with you and it annoys me to see people getting so personal so fast about things. It is one of the unfortunate things about dealing with people enjoying the unambiguosness of relative anonymity of the web, as they would jump down your throat alot quicker than if they were talking with you in a pub. Ah, well. C'est la vie. All I do is concentrate on the guys who worth talking to. Cheers guys, Jay
The Mango Kid Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 ...Droooool Looks very sharp Jay, I've been thinking of getting this kit myself but I didn't want to torture my wallet any more, but now we'll see... he he he, little credit card were are you...? Kris
Dave Pratt Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Here we go again! So far so really good Jay.Sometime in May I hope to get the Typhoon on to the bench but first I have to get the Vb done.I'll be paying damn close attention to this build mate...cheers
Hacker Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 thanks for the vote there Jay. l know the lineage of the hawker typhoon/tempest/sea fury and have build several models of all the variants. Though l would love to do the MDC model its way out of my price range and besides l love scratchbuilding so hacking up the revell kit is more fun l hope to have one (canadain) done with all the modifcations hacker
Hacker Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 oh by the way wasnt the interiors of the later hawker aircraft painted interior black or did that come later with the tempest /sea furies? hacker
bsarnoffca Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Very nice work, Jay. I'm glad you started this kit so I can watch your progress. I bought one myself but I've got a few projects in front of it. I think it's absolutely worth the price.....beautiful detail, perfectly cast, a real jewel. I'm planning to put an engine in mine from a Revell Typhoon. Brian did a great job here; http://www.largescaleplanes.com/articles/B...on/Typhoon.html
LSP_Matt Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Hehe...trailblazer for the rest of us. By all means offer your opinion. Your experience in building a range of kits allows you to see the good and bad in them. It helps us avoid pitfalls in construction. Besides, your assessments (in fact all the LSP staff) have always been balanced. Looking fantastic so far. Wow. cheers Matty
DMurph Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Wonderful looking paint so far, I'm really impressed with the detail. Cheers Murph...
John Reid Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Just a wonderful bit of work there Jay! Cheers! John.
