Haluk Posted May 7 Posted May 7 1 hour ago, Dave Williams said: Is that the pre-tariff price, or does that include markups for tariffs? If you have to add another $100 or so on top, that’s going to be a killer. They stated that they will not make a surprise price. Whatever they say will be the price.
Tony T Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Thanks for the updates. I look forward to see the new photos. I'm definitely still in for one B. And a follow-on J. I was expecting environ three hundred Euros so €340 is still highly doable. The 3DP cockpit decals and metal landing gear would cost a bomb as AM, and I'm seeing this kit as an OOB experience. Probably unique. However, at that price I would appreciate two sets of clear parts. Tony Haluk 1
alaninaustria Posted May 7 Posted May 7 From where will this kit ship from, Turkey? I like what I see so far! Cheers Alan
DagR Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Hi, I see from the sprue shots that there might be an air force version as well in the pipeline. I see air force type inboard pylons and also a 610 gal HPC tank. Likewise I see 3 different AIM-9 versions, among them AIM-9L, that was not used on the F-4B. This looks promising. Dag
Tony T Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Yes, the sprue shots are now up: https://hobbyzero.com/news/red-pill-models-to-release-new-f-4b-phantom-ii-model/ Looks great. Love the small details, like the intake covers and 'Noddy' caps for the 'Winders — B, D/G and L/M — plus alternate Sparrow well rears for open/missile in and shut. The wing, with optional dropped L/E and T/E flaps and fold, looks great. Pylons ditto: not sure I'd need ResKit pylons or drop tanks with this. But I would still like a spare set of clear parts, for a modest fee if necessary. Well, that's my smokey air fryer budget gone in favour of another old smokey. Dag Some of the pictures in the link, do say F-4E instead of F-4B. Maybe I’ll have a guess on the next version they will do🙃 Maybe an Air Force F-4E?

What you think it's worth, and what the consumer is willing (or able) to pay are two entirely different things, and Red Pill's success depends on the latter. I'll use me as an example. If the kit retailed in the $200-ish range, I more than likely would have bought 2 or 3. At roughly $400 each, I'm not buying a single one. Once again though, there are modelers out there that will drop that kind of money on this kit, and I do hope the sales exceed the expectations. ScottsGT, Martinnfb, firefly7 and 3 others 6
LSP_Ray Posted May 7 Posted May 7 It looks like it could be a good model. However, I am going to wait and see for several reasons: 1) At that price, I want to read a couple of reviews and get a much better idea of the quality and accuracy. 2) I also want to wait till the tariff situation is better resolved. Don't want a surprise $80-$100 on top of the cost. 3) I have plenty of stash including two F-4's to work. Don't need to be first on the block to get it. Bill Cross, Stevepd and scvrobeson 3
thierry laurent Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Prices of many LSP are now really entering into the red zone... ☹️ Useless to say I'm quite happy to have a big stash. This price is quite hefty and this will have a clear effect on sales... Crazy to think this cold war jet plastic kit will be more expensive than a Jetmads kit! 😳 firefly7 1
Tony T Posted May 7 Posted May 7 I see it differently. Given 3DP decals for the cockpit and walkways, metal landing gear and quite detailed pylons, jet cans, optional full flaps and full inlets you would be spending at least €170 on AM to attain the same level of detail that's in the box to upgrade a Tamiya purchase to a comparable level, so think of it as a €170 kit with an equal value of AM. And the shapes look great, unlike the Tamiya. When people are falling over each other to buy some 3DP models costing the same or much more, with little or no extras, I don't understand the problem here. It's an OOB experience but once Red Pill have sold a bunch to subscribers maybe they could offer a zero decals, zero metal, plastic-only edition like Eduard 'overtree' kits at half the price? Tony Yeah, but you're assuming every modeler wants 3DP decals or would buy aftermarket for it. Social media, and YouTube has quite literally shown the number of modelers that care about such things are probably 1% of the whole modeling community. Anyway, I'm not spending $400 on a single kit. And yes, I can easily afford it, but it isn't going to happen. Simply a personal choice. firefly7, D Bellis and Martinnfb 3
TankBuster Posted May 8 Posted May 8 At around $600 Aus its a no for me but i am happy for the people who can afford it. Cheers. fastterry 1
DugyB Posted May 8 Posted May 8 You know something, if you guys offered this nose section as a separate model I’d buy one …. This pic of it looks wicked cool, would make for an interesting display me thinks … Landrotten Highlander 1
