Thunnus
Thanks guys! The pastel wash continues on the top side. I elected to use a dark, almost black, brown color for the top. Here's what the top side looks like after the wash. After the wash is completed, I covered the entire model with a coat of Model Master Acryl Flat Clear. The cowling has been given a pastel wash, followed by a flat coat. A trip to the light box checks our progress after the flat coat phase. easixpedro, Citadelgrad, patricksparks and 21 others
JayW
Your painting and exterior finish work is just magical. My god - this is going to be a first rate P-47 build. For sure. zaxos345, Martinnfb and Thunnus
scvrobeson
Spectacular build John. Your pastel washes always bring it together, and you seem to be a rare person that can make those Model Master Acrylics work. Looking forward to your next steps. Thunnus
Thanks guys! It's time to remove the tissue paper masking from the wheel wells. I don't want to forget the install the drain pipe that I fabricated a few months back. With the prop and flaps added, a few more shots with different lighting. The photo box tends to exaggerate the grey frosting effect from the flat finish that really isn't as pronounced in real life. Shoggz
When I grow up I want to be able to paint and weather as good as you do John. Martinnfb, HB252, scvrobeson and 3 others

For my next project (a natural finish ETO P-51D), unlike my current project (dirty dusty stained bleached F4U), I will not be able to hide behind the natural imperfections of such a used and abused airframe. Gotta up my game WRT exterior finishing. Thunnus shows us how its done. Edited May 21, 2023 by JayW Thunnus and Martinnfb
scvrobeson
I've said it before, but she's an absolute beauty John. I know the Trumpeter kit is known as a tough one, but you've done a fantastic job with it. Matt Thunnus and Martinnfb
Woody V
Besides the fact that this build is inspiring, I can't ever recall a build with a better understanding of how to apply decals. Martinnfb, HB252 and Thunnus

Am about to start the engine on my build and I though why not go waaaay back to page 7 and see how you did it. A couple of moments after I gazed at this picture I stumbled across a picture from the Vought archives taken from almost the same angle. Perfect replication. Thanks for paving the way. No way is mine going to be as nice, but I'll certainly try JayW, Thunnus and Martinnfb
Citadelgrad
Very entertaining and informative, as always, John. My only complaint is that no matter how many of your builds I study, my own builds can't hold a candle. Your subtle finish work is just staggering.
