de Havilland fans unite!!  Woweee!! In my diary already.

And in mine, and my club is going, so some of my models can come out to play on the stand.  Found some more details on another forum.  https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235118804-de-havilland-museum-model-show-2023/

DH attracted me with the DH 2, then for his company's interwar civil aircraft, especially the DH 60 Gypsy Moth, DH 80 Puss Moth, DH 83 Fox Moth, DH 84 Dragon & DH 89 Dragon Rapide, some of which are not yet in suitable kits, all of which were utilised by airline pioneer Ted Hillman who founded and directed Hillman's Airways from Romford, my home town. (Romford was in Essex. It was absorbed into the Greater London Borough of Havering in the 1960s.)

de Havilland designed or De Havilland built military aircraft in my collection begin with the BE 2c and end at present with the DH 112 Venom. An elegant DH 103 Hornet would be most welcome.

I have no ambition to build a DH 106 Comet, but a DH 104 Dove? Oh yes.

@Christa Hello Chris,

I know you have been transforming a Matchbox DH82 Tiger Moth into a DH83 Fox Moth.  I am curious which plans you are using so that you can do this. Any chance you can share your sources? (Strictly between we-the-afflicted of course :coolio::D). There are many on the web but the vast majority I have found have been for 1/6 or 1/4 scale RC models.

Kind regards,

Paul

These, in addition to the fantastic walk around provided by Max @mozart will hopefully help anyone similarly inclined to build a Tiger!

Kind regards,

Paul

Those are the best pictures of a Tiger Moth that I've seen Paul, a real treasure trove indeed.  Thank you so much for posting them....I'm going to steal them all for my Tiger Moth file!! :D

Poor payment for the advice thus far given Max! you have really helped me with many topics beyond Tiger Moths! Glad they are of use.

Kind regards,

Paul

I may have told this anecdote before, if so please forgive me but in this context it’s worth repeating (I think :P). It concerns this gentleman:

dtoOwZ.jpg

Grp Capt David Bonham Carter was the Station Commander of RAF Waddington during the later years of WW2. He had previously been an accomplished test pilot but by this stage he was somewhat out of condition, rather deaf (his nickname was TR9, an early type of radio equipment, on account of the large hearing aid that he wore) and so irascible that he disregarded any notion of being in a landing circuit….he just landed!

Anyway, post-war he had his “own” Hornet and he was paying a good will visit to a US base in the Far East (I’ll day Singapore but who knows?). As he approached the base an honour guard of four Sabres were sent up to escort the esteemed British visitor into land. Seeing them, BC opened his throttle, feathered one engine and zoomed past the astonished Sabre pilots. Their astonishment increased when, safely on the ground, BC reached into his cockpit for his walking stick and stomped off to the Mess.
All totally true I’m assured.

Any relation to Helena  one wonders ...

I don’t know…. I tried researching BC a few years ago but not very seriously, there’s a Bonham Carter family in Dorset but not sure if they’re related.
Later: it seems not.
