Looks like visibility from the cockpit must have been somewhat limited with the wings right to your left and right. Also the access into and out. Could have been a benefit to have been working as a circus artist before... Interesting construction, indeed.

Yes access to the cockpit was very restricted - access to the cockpit was from the fuselage top at the rear of the cockpit.

In fact the bracing wires at the left side of the cockpit had a quick release fastener fitted.

This was to allow the pilot to escape through that side of the cockpit frame in the event of a crash.

The bracing wires on the right side of the cockpit did not have this, as a Lewis machine gun was often fitted there and blocked exit from that side.

Various methods of protecting the pilot in the event of a ground loop were tried, including wing hoops and a full protection frame.
