Most beautiful, iconic, fixed wing aircraft ever built.............go ahead, make your choice......

Recommended Posts

In the air or on the tarmac?

Airborne, possibly the TB-58 trainer Hustler or Concorde SST.

On the ground or in the air, Mirage III/5 or DH Rapide.

Most sinister on the ground: Handley Page Victor, Lockheed SR-71A, Junkers Stuka with or without a snake painted on it and the Fw 190  I saw at Hendon which just exuded a sort of evil.

Most preposterous design feature the NLG on a Horton flying wing

Every one of them from the 1903 Wright Flyer to today's Fat Amy are all magnificent works of art.  Things like the little step on the strut of a Cessna 152 or 172, the cargo floor of a UH-1, the nose on view of a Rafael, the weird amalgam of shapes on a Mig-21, C-141s, Spads (ww1 and the A-1), a Maule... All of them get my soul singing.  Now it's time to go flying in the RV.  See you later!

As is sometimes said, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”

some of the nominee’s I see as Puposeful (looking at you F16)

Iconic (747)

Futuristic (SR71….. even now)

but for me, beauty in an airframe balances elegance, proportion, lines, and the SOUND

so that means

Merlin powered Spitfire for a prop

Concorde for Jets

great thread
