‘Proud’ to say I know next to nothing about the P-40, I just found a rare 1/32 Hasegawa K version at a clearance sale.

Not a lot of AM decals for that version. Can I get away with building it as a different version ie the E or any other with only internal differences???

There are a few decal options, Barracuda, AML, as well as a few sets of masks from Montex...

If none of those grab you, I can trade you the K tail for the standard E tail?

The tail being the only difference?

In some boxings like the Kittyhawk MKI/MKIII, they provide both, long and short tail. And also two different IP :)

Yes but not the P-40K tail that had a distinctly different fairing.

Seems it's the exhausts, exhausts cover, tail, possibly the windscreen - some had an additional frame on the left hand side - funny enough there was a reasonably priced on ebay, which I just bought. If you put a request in the traders board, for either a full kit swap, or just the relevant parts, I'm sure someone will be interested, though check which aircraft you want to make as the E kit only has the windscreen with the additional frame.

The P-40K was basically a continuation of the P-40E.  So, yes, you could modify the vertical fin and convert it to an E if you want.

That is a valuable kit due to its rarity so you might want to sell it to someone that really wants a short tail K, then use the funds to get an E kit.

As others have said, there were boxings that included long and short parts and both canopies.

The Eduart (Eduard) boxing of the "N" can be built as an E, long tail K, M, or N!

You are right about the windscreen.  They made a mistake on the early E boxings and have extra framing on the port side which didn't happen until the P-40M.
