Whitey
Hi Guys and Gals and others, what paints are people (are we people in this new woke world) using for Olive Drab on their Vietnam Cobras please? Cheers, Peter
John1
That's a tough question. I'd almost say find a color picture of your subject and eyeball it with a custom mix. OD faded quite quickly, at other times replacement parts were added in a different shade and later in the war, the US started using a darker green shade of OD. For fresh OD, I go with Modelmaster Olive Drab (if you can find it any more). Good luck. Whitey

Smokeyforgothispassword
Life colour do a great range of olive drabs, this is one of their kits https://www.bnamodelworld.com.au/lifecolor-lc-cs11-acrylic-paint-set-us-olive-drab-camouflage-22ml-x-6 that I’ve used to colour match. Their UA 223 and 224 faded olive drabs are great colours too, but again I only use them on test cards and then mix another brand to match - I’ve never had great luck getting life colour to stick. I'm sorry to rain on peoples' parades, but contemporary photos of 'Nam Cobras are NOT reliable reference-sources. What with over / under-exposure of film, fading due to poor negative storage-conditions, the obvious colour casts created by 1960's emulsions, etc, etc, I would recommend you use contemporary images as a starting point only. Having said that, you have to trust something, at some point, I guess.... Chris. Whitey and John1
Whitey
Thanks very much for the advice folks. It sounds like we are all having the same issues and it will boil down to what we think looks good. I'll let you know what I come up with.
