Astro32
Greetings all! Been awhile as usual. This time the 'vid got me and recovery will be slow. To help with this, I just picked up an early MPC boxing of the Airfix kit for a song. I built one when I was staying at my uncle's house over summer vacation as a young kid. Listening to the tales told by my uncle and my dad while building it are a priceless memory. And that of course is what drew me to it. Anyway, I'm not going to go too nuts on this kit. What aftermarket is out there? Cockpit & gear wells, decals, etc? Thanks folks. LSP_K2 and Derek B
LSP_Ray
Barracuda has some resin wheels, there isn't much else. Did you see the news Airfix are going to offer a 1/24 Spit IX? Astro32, LSP_K2 and phasephantomphixer
Alain Gadbois
Airscale has an instrument panel set for this kit. Alain Astro32
LSP_Ray
D’oh! Forgot that one, and I have a set. LSP_K2
red Dog
Not much available when I converted mine to a MkIX, (Now released from Airfix and that's a good thing because the conversion I used was very old) I used the IP from airscale which was gorgeous and added a lot to the cockpit I also used the MasterCasters flaps set - although Spitfires are hardly seen with flaps down on the ground I also used some gear bays castings as you can see in the picture above. They have the merit to exist but I wasn't convinced about them Some possible inspiration: 1/24 Spitfire MkVb to LF. fightersweep
Grey Matter Figures do a replacement seat and frame (the kit part is overscale), control column and throttle quadrant and aerial mast. Waldron did a great placard set for the cockpit which includes a photo etch throttle quadrant that works if built carefully. The Barracuda wheels look fantastic. I wasn't aware of those and look way better than the Contact Resine wheels I picked up years ago. Old Etcher Fred used to do a very comprehensive photo etch set for the 1/24 Mk I Spitfire. I imaging that may be hard to find now though. Edited February 9, 2022 by fightersweep Astro32
Astro32
Thanks for the feedback! I've found the upper right wing half to be badly warped. Not sure if I can fix that yet. If not I'll try and source a replacement.
Astro32
Still trying to give that upper right wing a go but it's not looking too good. Don't be surprised if a want ad shows up! Anyway, Airfix's upcoming Mk.IX should be a stunner. However I firmly believe they should reprise their BoB Spit & '109E. Astro32
I've cast a fishy eye at foiling this one, then polished. Maybe.
Astro32
Today I ordered Airscale's instrument panel, Barracudacast wheels, and RB Production's Sutton harness. Sadly though I can't get the warp out of that right upper wing sorted. Anyway, thanks again for looking in and advising!
Pete Roberts
Maybe you could contact Airfix spare parts dept for a replacement if no luck fixing it? You may need to send a photo of the part. Astro32

Chek
Don't forget eBay. There are often incomplete or (usually poorly) partially built models offered for spares or repairs. A dip in oven cleaner, a light sanding and a buff with fine wire wool should take care of any existing paint and glue marks. Astro32
Great news! The LHS I bought the kit from had a boatload of them arrive from an estate, so I got a smokin' deal on a replacement. Now I have new stock for the spares bin! Grizly
Nothing has been said about the engine included with the Mk.1a kit - it's terrible. Fortunately, if you can lay your hands on an Airfix Hurricane kit, the engine can be made to fit with not too much trouble and is a vast improvement. coogrfan, Pete Roberts and Astro32
