Well,  I have had a rare good turn of luck and I will be going as a last minute tag-a-long with one of my buddies that's going due to his previous carpool ride bailing at the last minute.  The only down side is the 13+ hour drive we have to do in one shot- although it shouldn't be too bad splitting the drive between us.

See you here!

Brian,

Any local hobby shops worth venturing out for from the cool convention sanctity and into the heat and humidity? lol

There's 2 Hobby Towns (chain started in Lincoln and that's where I believe corporate HQ still is). 1 is in North Omaha and is mostly RC. The smaller one is just down the road (Giles) about 2 miles east. They've got new ownership and are rebuilding their stock--suffering from import issues like most places.  There's a shop in Bellevue called A/K Collectables. Have never been, but supposedly mostly car models with some older classic a/c kits (think the Monogram 1/48th stuff).

I'm planning on going :D

What advice do y'all have for a Nats first timer?

Prepare for sensory overload?  Its like walking into a Japanese Pachinko parlor (or any Casino).  The contest room is amazing and you can spend plenty of time gazing at the amazing work, but the joy for me is wandering the vendor rooms and seeing all the stuff for sale. Sellers will have all sorts of kits on sale--I scored a lot of stuff the last time I went and have a whole shopping list in my mind. Helps that I live just down the road and have a pickup now. (I'm sure the missus won't mind...) :evil_laugh:

Plenty to see and do. If you don't have transportation, there's an Alamo Drafthouse Theater within walking distance that has a full restaurant attached.  There's like 4 breweries with a mile or two of the convention center. Pint 9 and Kros Strain are collocated and do food trucks most nights. Patriarch Distillery is also close to the hotel as is Lucky Bucket Brewing Co. Otherwise head down to the Old Market in downtown Omaha. Plenty of world class restaurants to chose from.  See the Zoo.  See the SAC Museum.

For folks that want to ship things, the USPS just opened a new facility off of 108th and Giles (convention center is 120th and Giles).

I've been super busy lately with life stuff, and have not really had any time, or any motivation to model.   I'm a bit disappointed in myself for having all these years to complete the Tigercat for the NATs I knew were coming but it just didn't work out.  Oh well, I am still bringing 4 models with me just to have something to display, but other than that Ill just be an observer, knowing none of those will really do much on a national level. That's perfectly fine as the Nationals are a spectacle all to themselves so its a lot to take in.

This will be my brother and I's first Nationals, and we're really looking forward to it! We'll be headed to Omaha from Denver here in about 2 hours or so. Bringing 3 models with me (1/32 B-17G, 1/32 I-16, 1/48 F7F Tigecat firebomber), which I am particularly proud of, but I don't expect to win anything. Just like to share my work with everyone else, add see everyone else's fine work. Hoping to bump into a few of you along the way. Look for the twins walking around buying too much stuff in the vendor's room.

That project deserves not to be rushed :D The work you've done on it sofar has been sublime, and when the motivation comes back to see it finished, it'll be be a Nats contender for sure!

We're on the way, stopped in Oak Grove, MO tonight. The better half has to watch the Allstar game.

Interesting item, just east of town and north of I70 is Harry S. Truman Regional Airport. It looks like there's a business that salvages parts from bizjets. There's a Lear Jet out by the side of I70.
