phasephantomphixer
Yes, the mid-winged lost to the sea as they say, kit. Tried a search, asking if any parts - areas of the recent Hasegawa 1/32 N1K2-J Shiden-kai could be used to improve the Revell/Takara 1/32 Kawanishi N1K1-Ja Shiden kit? Thanks
thierry laurent
Not a lot of things I guess. I think the engine, wheels and some cockpit parts can be used. Out of my memory, everything else was different. Rick Griewski and phasephantomphixer
dodgem37
As Thierry says. Maybe include landing gear struts, tail planes, wheel well covers, prop, canopy, fuel tank, tail wheel. See below. phasephantomphixer
Well now, that should be a decent boost for it, those areas could use the help - Thanks.
Rick Griewski
The wheel bays are useful. The strut bay area may work with modifications. The struts are different lengths. too bad no resin cockpit exists phasephantomphixer
Troy Molitor
Don't forget about the photo-etch set produced by Brengun. It's designed for the N1K2 however, there might be useful items. As Rick mentioned above: The struts are different lengths. One of the main reasons for the N1K2 was to simplify the over complicated strut retraction system on the N1K1 with the gear struts needing to be compressed when retracted in flight. I recall reading about this somewhere. Not sure the link below will works but a couple nice pictures of the N1K2 cockpit built up are on the Brengun site. http://www.brengun.cz/e-shop/1-32-accessories-31/n1k2-j-shiden-kai-(hasegawa)-1099# Question: Isn't there a paint company that makes the right shade of Kawanishi green color? I also recall the N1K1 had the earlier lighter shade of Kawanishi green. Good luck on your project. Love the lines on both N1K1 and N1K2. LSP_K2
A bit OT, but does anyone do (or did) a nice mid-wing George in 1:48 scale?

The only one that I'm aware of is the old Otaki/Arii kit, which is not terrible, but probably doesn't fit your definition of 'nice'. phasephantomphixer
Yes, longer gear for wing location. Likely end up jazzing up the ol' girl's long legs. Thanks Troy, there's a few things to gather from Brengun's catalog, all I have from them so far is the Siemens Schuckert D.III set. Don't see much from them here on westcoast of the US. LSP_K2
As it turns out, Tamiya did one as well. I'll more than likely go for the Tamiya kit. Thanks again, fellas.
Troy Molitor
Hoping this all works out for the best. I have one built up (Revell kit from the 90's). Mark kindly made molds of the canopy section for me which I lost the center frame section in a move. I moved 4 times in the last ten year and final have it ready to work it in the rotation to get it up on its legs. I also have an unbuilt kit that I bought from a fellow LSP "great friend" for a seriously awesome price. The old Revell N1K1 kit is awesome value for this vintage kit. Some one mentioned the 1:48 scale offering? Hmmmmmmm. Go big or go home. LOL.. All the best gent's. LSP_K2 and D Bellis
Steve Eagle
The N1K1 has a good deal of differences from the K2. The landing gear was longer to get room for prop size. It also had a retraction engineering to shorten the gear on retraction for better storage in the wing. The Bunrin-do FAOW series has a helpful edition regarding the -1 and-2.
