Finn
In some cases there is no need to worry too much about getting the yellow stripe on bomb noses perfect: note the one on the inboard pylon is at the front but not lined up. We were dropping so many bombs that we ran out and had to resort to using World War 2 era bombs (Which is this picture). One of those maddening things about MacNamara's tenure. We'd sold surplus bombs to West Germany and then had to buy them back at 4x the cost and we still didn't have enough bombs. These old bombs are also the main reason why the fire on the Forrestal were so bad: old, unstable ordnance that cooked off well before it should have. My back is tweaking just looking at those guys. I have to admit, I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a jet with that beast hung underneath.
