B-17
Hi, I am currently working on a DIY resin project. I have a fairly rough shape in resin that will require sanding. The problem that I am finding is that the resin itself is still fairly "soft" compared to the consistency you get from Eduard (or similar). I have let my part cure for approximately 24 hours. Does anyone have suggestions of brands or techniques to get a better/harder cure that will hold up better to sanding? I am currently using Alumires RC-3 casting resin by Alumilite. Thanks in advance, Jeff Edited July 29, 2021 by B-
thierry laurent
If the resin is not too old, you very probably have a problem of proportions. Typically for the yellow resin you have a whitish and a brownish components. The brownish is what allows the other to harden. So, if you use too much of the other one the chemical reaction is not fully efficient, resin cures slowly and stays softer. Typically you can assess the efficiency of the reaction by the amount of generated heat as the mix is curing. B-17
Bob MDC
I agree with Thierry older resin or bad proportions also if you are casting in warm weather conditions that could affect it. Try post curing the castings in a warm place like the heating boiler. My two standards for casting are Axson F38 or Polytech Easyflo 60 Bob B-17

Treehugger
Btw, I think it is advisable using a proper gas mask (half mask with proper filter choice) for when working with resin. I read that in a book recently. Edited September 2, 2021 by Treehugger Paulpk and B-17
STM
I have a small scale that weighs in 0.1 grams. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations as closely as you can.
