Revell Bf 109G6/R6 1/32 Pilot Gottfried Weiroster

Hello everyone!

I've finally paint-tested the WfGr.21 rockets I've been struggling with.

I may redo some things.  My main concern is the adherence between the aluminum tube and the brass rods.  CA doesn't make a good join, and the paint highlighted some CA blobs.  I'm thinking of drilling into the missiles themselves and sinking longer brass rods into them.

I also trimmed and sanded the upper wing parts and attached them to the fuselage.

Happy modelling!

Nicely done.

'I've finally paint-tested the WfGr.21 rockets I've been struggling with.'

Boy, do I know that sentence.  I attempted to add Eduard Brassin to a remake of the Hungarian '109 found in my signature.  No damn dice.

Sincerely,

Mark

I never realized how fiddly the WfGr.21 process was.  Looks like you have pulled it off nicely.  Well done Gaz.

Thank you Troy.  It could be a lot more fiddly if you try to do things the way an engineer might.  I've used a lot of Mk. 1 eyeball to make decisions.  Eventually, sitting underwing in the display case it really won't matter as long as they don't fall off....   my biggest fear.

Today, I can gladly say that the pilot is finished.  I will give him more matte coat later.  I am so afraid of fogging it up with over application that I'll go easy.

I've also started to add the wing parts to the fuselage and prepare the movable surfaces by filling the gaps required for them to be moveable.  Why Revell???

A mini update:

Another coat of matte clear really makes changes on the figure.  But his uniform looks soft and velvety.

Wings and empennage on.  Some small scale fettling to do:

I usually hide the big seam where the lower wing meets the fuselage by 'cleverly' postioning the cooling flaps.

But as you'll notice on the following shots of Weiroster's 109, the cooling flaps expose that area...  so I've had to fill and sand.

Looking most impressive, the pilot figure looks grand something that I have never been good at.

Cheers

Thank you.  I only started on figures last year.  Hopefully one day they'll be good enough to add to compliment my models.

  • 1 month later...

I've been remiss in keeping this thread up to date.  The build has continued, and I'll take this opportunity to catch it up.

I've done a lot of peripheral things including building a parachute for the pilot.

P1014124.thumb.JPG.64a40b153a781f68d8ce3

I built it complete from various materials...  all of the straps are actually blue 3m tape.

I didn't want it to look like a bundle laying on ambiguous straps.  Here it is reversed with the pilot...   it will have to be weathered to bring out shadows, eventually.

I also worked on the WfGr 21 Rocket tubes....   and while not perfect, and still needing more detail painting, they'll have to go on as they are.

It's really one of the most difficult things I've ever done...   Just too much metal and too many filly parts.

I was at a modelling club meeting two weeks ago and somebody said that clear nail polish was one of the best adhesives you can use.  So, I decided to use it to attach the Eduard PE pilot armor to the clear plastic canopy so that I didn't have to worry about CA fumes.  I have to say that I like how it has held so far.

I also wanted to add some wear to the drop tank.   So, I milled it out on the inside and pushed in on the thinned plastic.   Then I used the Dremel and made a few small external divots, burnish them with the Dremel buffing pad.  It's awaiting oil-staining and weathering.

And a little piece of brass tube to add that small detail so often missed on kits.

Now...  I had to spend a lot of time on surface detail.  But instead of recapping all of that, I'm just going to go straight to the initial painting which I completed yesterday.  The markings are all masks.

I've never had much success with pre-shading.  Some guys are wizards with it, but I generally lose it in a multi-color scheme.  So I'll be relying heavily on oils to make it all happen.   ...or not.

Anyway...   thanks for looking!
