Work has returned to the Camel.  I went through the laborious step of taping off the rib tapes and spars, then pre-shading them for the top coats. The upper surfaces got Tamiya XF-27 Black Green with XF-62 Olive Drab spars.  The underside was done with Tamiya XF-64 Red Brown shading and MRP NATO Brown spars.  The undersurfaces will get their traditional CDL coat, then overcoated with the PC-10 to represent the night fighter overcoat.  The top surfaces will just be PC-10.

Paint is now on the Camel.  The basic PC-10 is MRP, the highlighting was Mr. Color 27.

The underside of the wings and fuselage were originally Clear Doped Linen, but were roughly overpainted with PC-10 to become night fighters. That's why it appears so different.

The front of the fuselage is Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green, highlighted with XF-4 Yellow Green, then blended back with one more mist coat of PC-10.

Now it's onto a gloss coat and the decals. I know they've been finicky in the Camel kits, we'll see what happens.

That's looking very good.  Love the contrast between the sheen on the fabric and the metal and wood parts of the nose.  But unless I missed something earlier, you seem to be shedding struts ...

Yes, the cabane struts do have a tendency to break.  Luckily, I will be able to pin them back together when the time comes.

Hello everyone,

I'm back with progress on the Camel.  As I'm sure most of you are aware, the start of the school year is a hectic time, so build time was limited.  But I was able to get the decals on and sealed. I was apprehensive after hearing some horror stories of Camel decals breaking in water, but these were fine. Roundels took a lot of effort to get to conform, but that was really because they had some tough detail to go over/around.  Now it's to paint in the little details, then get to weathering and assembly.

Tail was masked and painted, I don't trust fin flash decals to fit and conform correctly ever.

Let me know what you think
