The roll bar in that photo is aftermarket, (which I removed) but there is an OEM Toyota Hilux roll bar that was an option-

the rear window cage is stock; and welded to the truck bed.

Turns out that knob adjusts the idle-

who knew? Never seen that before-

kinda like a choke, but different I guess-

not exactly sure where to set it..I rolled it back and forth and played with the idle speed, and set it back to where it was.

more to follow- My first diesel…so learning as I go-

cheers

Pete

I used the choke on my Triumphs to adjust the idle on cold damp days in Canada.

Yeah. The days of manual chokes eh? When warming up your car was actually a thing, or using too much choke and flooding the engine was another possibility.  Despite the lack of complexity it did give us a feel and ear for engines. My Dad had a TR4 for many years. Loved it.

I don't think that idle speed adjust is like the screw on the carby. On my my FJ75 its a separate linkage. Usually you set it in low range when you're climbing, or more aptly plodding up snotty terrain. It negates the need to keep your foot pressure constant on the accelerator/gas pedal. Sometimes operator/driver inputs make things worse.

Ironically, I found this when driving a Skidsteer 3Tonne Cat289. Sometimes it was better to just let go of the joysticks when it began to oscillate and let it correct itself. Operator inputs seemed to only exacerbate the situation.

I’m calling this a win!

The only missing placard for my Hilux was this little gem. It describes how to release the spare tire, and is located on the rear of the truck to the right of the license plate bracket.

long out of production- it was impossible to find a new OEM.

I had a photograph only- but Scott Brown from Bullseye Decals saved my bacon and created new artwork that I used to get this thing made-

Those of you who can read Japanese will notice that I’m actually holding it upside down in this photo.

This literally made my day!!
