Out2gtcha
Not sure too many of you have noticed but Ive been AWOL for a couple weeks........... The wife and I have been out on holiday on our latest adventure to the south east US. It was indeed a hell of an adventure! We had weather of all kinds, nature abounding including bears, foxes, raccoons, giant elk, seemingly hundreds of deer, golden eagles, hawks, turkey, turkey vultures, song birds of every color of the rainbow and insects of every variety. The nature and scenery was breathtaking to say the least, as the whole area was great views everywhere you turned. We had mountains, lakes, hills, rivers, ferrys across rivers, & long stretches of winding road as far as the eye could see, including the 11 miles and 318 curves of the dragons tail with our Jeep and off road trailer. South East Smokey Mountain Adventure Days/nights: 14 Miles covered: 2789 States traversed: 8 - NE, IA, KS, MO, IL, KY, TN, NC Cave in the Rock state park IL Great views along the Ohio river Next up, we loaded the Jeep and trailer onto a ferry to cross the Ohio river............ Out2gtcha
Loaded up the Jeep and trailer to cross the Ohio river https://photos.smugmug.com/Outdoor-Adventures-/TennesseeNorth-Carolina-May-2021/i-sN8ZmwJ/0/b62f5900/1280/MAH06002_MP4-1280.mp4 Arriving on the Kentucky side of the river https://photos.smugmug.com/Outdoor-Adventures-/TennesseeNorth-Carolina-May-2021/i-ZHjJv9Z/0/3c4c94c9/1280/MAH06004_MP4-1280.mp4 We headed up to Tennessee to camp for a week or so Got rained on a LOT that 3rd and 4th day in TN Giant reticulated woodpecker in our camp We packed up and left the Great Smokey Mountains for the woods of North Carolina and the Nantahala Forest. Buffalo grazing somewhere past Gatlinburg TN We ended up at Cheoah Point Campground, in the Nantahala National Forest on Lake Santeetlah The camp grounds are very well kept, right by the lake and a bit less rustic than the wife and I are used to, but the amenities like an actual toilet were nice Camp now fully set up with awning out and awning walled (with door) attached Hiking near Yellow Creek Falls The wife did manage to pick out a magical lunch spot https://photos.smugmug.com/Outdoor-Adventures-/TennesseeNorth-Carolina-May-2021/i-vQhtMnX/0/4eaad2c8/1280/20210507_165016_mp4-1280.mp4 Christoffer Lindelav, LSP_K2, easixpedro and 13 others
Out2gtcha
With a full days hiking under our belts we settled down in the kitchen for a good meal Gorgeous views from the Lake Santeetlah trail loop The Cheoah Point Campground we stayed in near Robbinsville NC was beautiful and had some gorgeous views as well Camp set up w/ "front door" open A green 6 spotted Tiger beetle heading through our camp Glad to be back home, especially after the wife and I lost a beloved furry family member a couple hours before we were supposed to leave. It put a different spin on things, but sometimes things have to happen for a reason. Thanks for stopping in on me, and Ill see if I can put up a RFI post on the F.1 I completed right before I left. Out2gtcha
Thanks Martin! I forgot to mention another "not-so-great" moment on the trip................... I was taking down one of the folded up aluminum extending awning poles, and like a dumba$$, was staring straight up at it when I did, and it let go and smashed right into my front teeth. Even left a huge powdery white dent in the pole! Bit O dental work ahead for me Troy Molitor, LSP_K2, thierry laurent and 3 others 1
