Joining the razorback mustang conversion bandwagon!

So I decided to start cutting up a revell P-51D and revell B to make a razorback mustang . I followed these builds as an inspiration and provide the best ideas how:

So I decided to use the old revell P-51B as the donor of the razorback. Remarkable for an old 60's kit the P-51B is actually accurate in outline, with exception of the nose area, probably due to the engine included in the kit. I mean the old kit wing has the same laminar wing shape as the new one, something that the trumpeter kit missed.

So using Junpei Temma's profiles of the P-51B,I started making cuts.  Again the P-51D is from revell I got cheap since the cockpit and fuselage was already painted, and a revell B. Let the cutting begin!

Very nice!  In order for your photos to show, remove all of the url and img tags and just leave the direct link to the photo.  Starting with "http" and ending with ".jpg".  I've done that with your quote so the pictures would appear.

Thanks for the info! Here are where I am now, Initially I wanted to use the revell clam windows as the windows are correct in size and shape. At first the plan was to attach the clam windows to the fuselage cutout. Bad idea. The part does exactly fit and requires sanding and filling to make it level, and polishing to make it clear again, ASIDE from removing those nubs revell added to the canopy. And I just ended up with a cloudy window.

So now for plan B. Plan B involves using something in my stash for while. I actually have a Rutman P-51B, and it has a vacform canopy, BUT that's not what I plan to use. The vacform canopy has a resin mold included with it, so I plan to vacform the canopy using that.

On further digging in the box, it turn out the rutman kit has 2 canopies. So, I decided to sacrifice one, to give an idea where would I go about this. My initial plan is to use the vacform to create the clam windows, and possibly the main 3 part canopy. So I cutout the original revell area and am now slowly but surely dryfitting the new clear parts.

For the windscreen, I may use a trumpeter part, which unfortunately is wider at the bottom and rounder at the top. But to avoid cutting and dryfitting more clear vacform, I'm willing to take a risk in using this. I'll probably dunk it in hot water once I get the final fuselage width after getting the cockpit parts in and closed the fuselage.
