Sensational work... top notch photography!

Thank you very much!  I may have to re-process the photos to get rid of that color cast!

Too beautiful for words. You've captured the real thing perfectly :clap2:

Thank you very much!  I've tried to capture a few of the details that were apparent in the photos of Red 10 and hopefully those have added some authenticity to this build.

Superb outcome John.  Looking forward to the D-13 and brown 4, broad-tailed JG-26 Dora 9.  We are truly spoiled watching you do your magic.

Thanks Troy!  Not sure I'm going to start Brown 4 right away.  I don't think I want to build two Doras simulataneously.  Will have to look at my stash and see what to pull out next!

John Boy, you've hit one out of the park again!  Just "Wow" in every respect, so it's hard to pick out what I like the most, other than everything.

Thanks Chuck!  One of kits in my stash is the Special Hobby Tempest V.  If I start that one, your build log will be a primary reference and a lofty goal to shoot for!

Just beautiful!  I'm building the same kit now and no way am I posting pictures after seeing THIS beauty!!

Question, how did you do the fuselage camo?  Base coat, camo, then very light overspray with the base coat?

Thanks!
Chris

Hey, post away!  Always good to see different builds of the same kit.  As for the upper fuselage camo, I started with an assumed daytime scheme of RLM 81/82.  I then applied the light blue RLM 76 over that in a very random scribble pattern allowing the darker greens to peek through.

Great finish and reference for the rest of us.

Thanks!  Hopefully, the build thread is useful for other builders of this kit.

Lovely result John, I have been following along as you know,- as a reference for the Revell 1/32 single seat a1 version.

Your attention to detail is excellent and your model looks like the machine in the contemporary photographs before it was captured.

One of the best 262’s I have seen.

Thanks again!

Hi John,

Your Me 262 is beautiful, just as is the norm with your work!

I like it a lot. Now you have to build the single-seater too. ;)

Radu

Thank you Radu!  Always a great honor to have the kit designer following a build and offering such valuable insight.  I wouldn't have figured our the flaps without your explanation!  The kit builds up very nicely and I really enjoyed building it.  Yes, I'll have to put the single seater in the queue now!

One of the best 262 models I've seen, first class work there.

Jeff.

Thank Jeff!  It's been a pleasure and hopefully I'll get started on the next one soon!

Stunning! - I especially like the way you achieved that camouflage finish.

Thanks Mike!  As modelers I think we gravitate towards a light-color-first approach but it seemed to make more sense with these field-applied nightfighter schemes that the underlying dark colors would be utilized to save time/paint.  I wanted to try that approach with this build.

Superb build John! The fading on the mottling is very well done, did you do a light overspray to achieve the effect? The wear on the front of the drop tanks is also very nice!

Ernest

Thank you Ernest!  Yes, a careful but random application of the light blue RLM 76 over the dark green to achieve the mottle.  The wear on the drop tanks was done with the reference photos in mind... Red 10 had tanks that exhibited considerable paint wear.  The first attempt was a standard hairspray chipping application that just didn't capture the right look.

So I scrubbed that and starting with a base of RLM 76, I used hairspray but also modulated the application of the black so that it was much lighter at the front of the tanks.  This allowed the black there to be more easily and completely eradicated.  Not exactly like the reference photos but much closer I think.
