LSP_Mike
Digging thru more boxes after my move, and found a space shuttle model by Revell. Can anyone shed any light on stremgths and weaknesses of this kit? TIA MIke
Tnarg
Check out Space in Miniature. He has multiple books on building spacecraft in various scales. He has lots of details on the various shuttle kits. https://www.spaceinminiature.com/ Also good for previews of space kits is Sven the ninfinger's site: https://www.ninfinger.org/models/space_models.html DK did a good book on the shuttle, but I am sure there are multitudes of references out there. Lake County Spaceport sells lots of decals and details for each scale and manufacturer's shuttle kits. http://lakecountyspaceport.com/ Real Space and several others probably have interesting parts, plus there are some on Shapeways. Lots of things to play with and add to the build. https://www.realspacemodels.com/shop-galapagos?category=1%2F144+Converson Have fun, Tnarg Edited January 29, 2021 by Tnarg Wrong link Rick Griewski and LSP_K2 1
LSP_K2
As far as I can recall, there are at least a couple of Revell shuttles in different scales. I think Fisher did nice engines for one of them, but don't know if that's correct or not. Also, there were sheets, at least in one scale, for all of the numbered heat tiles. As to the bigger kit, it seemed OK to me, but most likely could benefit from lots of extra detailing, though straight OOB, actually can look pretty cool with cargo bay doors open or closed. D Bellis
I built the 1/144 Revel shuttle a while back: https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/53107-revell-1144-shuttle-with-boosters/ Fun build for what it is. GrahamF
I did the big Revell one but I think somebody did the booster rockets and fuel tank for even that size. I found the ill fitting lift off cockpit roof did seem to spoil it a bit. Graham Bravo52
ScottsGT
this is the Revell 1/72. I used the resin “top hat” to correct the shape. Medical tape for blankets and cut up stock for individual heat tiles. Tnarg, LSP_K2, Landrotten Highlander and 3 others
