Reuben L. Hernandez
Looking at dropping some cash on one of these monsters. Can someone please tell me the differences of those kits offered by HK, specifically the G model? Really want the F model, but I’m not willing to give up my first born first it. I know that the HK G models both have the Cheyenne tail section, but is there an option for the regular tail stinger be added or built from what’s in either HK G models offerings? Thanks, Reuben LSP_K2
Dave Williams
AFAIK, both of the G kits are the same, except for decals. Both build only late models with the staggered, enclosed waist windows and Cheyenne tail turret. I’m sure the earlier tail turret from the E/F boxing would fit since it’s the same rear fuselage (HKM uses a poor fitting plug in the side of the rear fuselage to unstagger the windows), but it’s not in either kit. Here are the instructions for both of the G kits. https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/1/6/0/143160-95-instructions.pdf https://www.hk-models.com/hkm/index.php?dispatch=attachments.getfile&attachment_id=14 LSP_K2, Uncarina and Reuben L. Dennis7423
Dave is correct, both of the B-17G kits are identical plastic wise. The only difference is the decals. - Dennis S. Thornton, CO USA Reuben L. Hernandez and LSP_K2
Reuben L. Hernandez
That’s what I was figuring, same plastic, different decals. I wonder why HK decided to release the Cheyenne version rather than the more numerous earlier version? Seems there are more decals and painting options for the earlier versions, than the later versions? Dennis7423
Dennis7423
I imagine that someday, we'll see the early G in 1/32. Just not yet. All they have to do is scale up the CAD from their 1/48 waist windows, and mix and match some parts from the E/F and G kits. Voila. Early G. - Dennis S. Thornton, CO USA Uncarina and Reuben L. ChuckD
If they released a 1/32 B-17 kit with a corrected nose (I hear the 1/48 kit's nose is far more accurate than their 1/32 kit), I'd buy it regardless of which variant it was. The tubular nose on the existing kit is subtle, but *really* off-putting for me. And, I'm usually pretty forgiving with accuracy errors. Reuben L.
