small update on the  wheel wells an landing gear

i used the aires update set although it requires some extra work to fit in..

finally!! starting the Alclad preparation .. first mr surfacer 1500 , sanding,  repairing and now waiting for tamiya gloss black to dry..

next step will be sanding again and polishing 

 

 

meanwhile testing airframe aluminium and chrome on elevators..

i think this is my favourite shade for NMF ..

I totally agree that on a large scale the scratches should be "real" and not applied on the final layer of paint, but this approach to the shadows seems to me an idea to be explored further, thanks for sharing it.

 

also, may I ask about the green you used for the cockpit? it's really appropriate for the P 47's office, very nice result!

yes , that;s correct i give a black layer as pre-shading.

 

the cockpit green is from the AK Real Colors AIR in the following order

first base color on top of black the bronze green RC264

next RC 230 Dull dark green , then lightly mist the RC 262 on some areas for highlights

after that i am applying oil colors for light effects and shadows 

(burned umber, raw umber, and naples yellow)

today' s progress

 

added break lines on landing gears..

i have used 0,6 mm soft pipe, brass and aluminum metal tubing,

resin wheels from  barracuda..

wheels are not glued yet as they will receive some washes and pigments to simulate dust ..

 

 

 

 

engine cowling panels assembled

and hatches filled with putty because they were cut in half..

 

 

dry fitting to ensure that everything is aligned..

 

and started polishing...

Thats some lovely work there!!! One note though as you have not decided the subject yet! IMHO and judging from the level of weathring in the cockpit and in the wheel wells you should not go after for a shining bird, like '50s bare metal birds, but for a duller, more used bare metal!! So maybe no polish on the gloss black?? 

Anyway i will be waiting for your progress!!!

yes i was thinking about that, since i have decided to go with airframe aluminium and similar shades of alclad.

i know it would look shiny at first but then i can tone it down if i like so..

i also want to experiment with these shades and see how they react with oil washes and other treatments since this is my first attempt on bare metal finish..

 

we' ll see how it goes..
