SimonCornes
I've just picked up one of these kits and was wondering what improvements might be available out there? I see Vector did a very nice engine and cowl and Lone Star did a cockpit but is it possible to still get either of these bits? Are their any alternatives? I'm afraid that 'tween wars' USN aeroplanes are not my area of expertise so I thought I'd ask here!! Thank you Edited December 14, 2020 by SimonCornes

SimonCornes
Of course !! Thank you for that - now to see if he has any stock!!
SimonCornes
£32 plus postage - think I’ll see what’s in the box!!!
Oldbaldguy
I’ve built a couple of these. Doesn’t need much since the airplane was pretty basic. A better motor would be nice, the tailhook could be better and maybe a less clunky aftermarket cowl if one exists.

That’s pretty much what you get with the Vector resin - engine including cowl but not cheap!!
LSP_Mike
Mid 70s, but not a bad kit. There are some stunning builds here on LSP, they might be good build guides.
SimonCornes
Hi Mike, Yes 1971 I think. I have already found and downloaded the build by Ed Fuquay but I wasn't aware of any more? Simon

AlbertD
It's really not a bad kit, especially for its age. The Vector engine set really does make the kit though. Tnarg, RadBaron, Stefano and 2 others
Tnarg
The ultimate F4B-4 effort was taken in this thread: The build cuts away almost everything with full interior detail. Probably further than you want to go, but very instructive. Tnarg
SimonCornes
Thank you Tnarg. Rick, Lone Star don't list the cockpit any more but I notice his minimum order is $50 plus $10 postage - I think not!! D Bellis
SimonCornes
Tnarg Just read all 32 pages of that build - good grief!! Well mine won't be that good!! But a lot of fun with a relatively small aeroplane. I'm hovering over one of those Vector engines!! Simon
ltdann
I recently found that VF-6B tested their F4B-4s with a portion of the ring cowling removed. You can see it on four of the aircraft in this video. F4B-4 operations start at around 2:48. Meant to give the pilot better visibility and also to allow the sight to be adjusted through its entire range. https://catalog.archives.gov/id/76753
SimonCornes
That looks like it could be very interesting but I couldn't get the film to run - I had to drag it along with the curser! I'll try again later!!
