Ben Brown
One of the things one thinks of in the middle of the night: How was the F-105 centerline pylon mounted to the airplane? There is no mention of this in the Dash-1. One would think the mounting lugs would somehow pass through the doors to attach to the bomb bay ram, but the extra bomb bay fuel tank would have been mounted to it. I wouldn't think the doors would be strong enough to be able to attach an MER with six big bombs. Were there hard points in the doors themselves? Finn
The only thing i could find so far this this Non destructing testing procedure which appear to be where the pylon was attached to: also some had straps for extra support: Jari LSP_K2 and John1
Ben Brown
Thanks! The straps were added later in the Vietnam war, I think. Ben

Finn
Some walkaround pics here show panels right about where the pylon would hook onto the fuselage, also no doubt where the electrical connections, and plumbing tubing for the c/l fuel tank would go: http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/shawn_antunes/f-105d_61-0086/index.php?Page=2 Jari
Ben Brown
Thanks! I guess it’s going to take a weapons manual or a structural repair manual to see the mechanics of how the pylon attached. I’ve looked online, but the only manual I’ve been able to find is the Dash-1. Ben Have you visited Avialogs.com? Not sure if they have one or not but if you haven’t already, it’s with a shot. Yeah, don't bother...there's no IPB there either, I just checked. Ben Brown
Thanks for checking. From a modeling standpoint, it doesn’t really matter, does it? We can just glue the pylon on and call it done! Ben
Finn
There is this drawing, which may or may not be accurate: Jari
