passenger seat

I'm sure that's a passenger seat.

I'm also pretty sure the backrest of the pilot seat would have a similar shape, but I cannot be sure before I find a photo.

The bottom of the seat looks to be just a wooden box with the frame for the backrest fitted...

the tubular frame, also the passenger seats all had arm rests

I think you are right, the seat frame could fit into the wooden box around it?

Hi Kent,

You're quite lucky as I got yesterday a second Air Britain book about the Dragon Rapide. Alas, I got it for close to double the normal price because it is OOP for ages and looks brand new! However, I do not regret it as here's what I found:

Hope this helps!

Thank you Thierry! The top picture looks exactly as the seat in this photo...

Thumbs up to both of you! (Kagemusha & Thierry)

The seat in the second photo is probably a later alteration (wartime 40'ish)?

So this is how far I've gotten with my 'interpretation' of the cockpit.

If you look closely you will see that if the tubular structures are similar, they are not identical: there are two long vertical bars in my picture whereas the one of the spare seat has one main vertical one in the centre and two small ones close to the edge of each side. However, as far as the cushions are added and the seat back is put against the bulkhead such differences are obviously not visible anymore. I think the only visible difference is probably the fact the top of the pilot seat was less pointy.

The black & white picture is indeed showing the prototype built for the RAF for maritime patrol. The type never reached production as the Air ministry choose the Avro Anson.
