Academy F/A-18C Hornet VFA-22

Hello,

 

I have a a question for you my friends.

 

When an F/A-18 (A,B,C,D) is parked with the engines turned off, the dorsal speed-brake can be left raised in open position?

 

In the book "The Modern Hornet Guide Exposed", Jake Melampy says that with the engines turned off and no hydraulics pressure the speed-brake can be raises by hands but it will be closed due the gravity if it's not locked by a brace. 

 

In the DACO book "Uncovering the Hornet" there are some pictures showing parked Hornets with raised speed-brake with no brace and the engines seems turned off.

 

Is it possible?

Hello,

 

some progress with the painting phase.

After a black layer acting as base some white was spattered into the center of the panels.

The main camouflage was applied using Gunze H307 for the upper surfaces and Gunze H308 for the sides and lower surfaces.

Adding drops of white at the above colors the mixture has been sprayed randomly all over the model.

The dark anti-slip stripes over the LERXs was applied using the specific product from Ammo by MiG using a strong brush.

All the details as the RWR, ECM, chaff launchers, metallic parts has been already painted too.

The model is ready for the first layers of clear gloss.

Hello my friends,

 

a week of hard work and the decals are on now.

They came form the Twobobs decal sheet for the VFA-22's Hornet during OEF. Now this sheet is OOP... it's a pity.

I choose the CO's plane in low-viz TPS scheme.

I have the CAM Pro's decal sheet for the VFA-22's Hornet too... but the grey used is too light. Again, i'ts a pity...

 

A good layer of the Tamiya X-22 Clear Gloss act as base for the decals.

Micro Set & Sol liquids has been used to soft and set the decals, as usual for me.

Again, thin layers of Tamiya X-22 sprayed to seal the decals.

A good dark wash using Flory's Model acrylic wash was brushed on.

 

3 layers of Gunze H-20 Clear Matt were sprayed to put everything together... now the decals seems just painted on.

Hello,

 

some progress on my Legacy Hornet.

I worked on the external loads, an asymmetrical training load.

 

Starting from the left external rail we have a blue CATM-9M already installed on its LAU-7 launch rail. All form the Academy kit. An IR's yellow cap (Aerobonus) and a red Remove Before Flight tag are applied.

Pylon 1 is my favorite load: a IMER (Eduard Brassin) with two LGTR drills (Trumpeter). Red caps and RBF tags complete the work.

Pylon 2 get and inert AGM-65 Maverick (ResiKit) with his red cap and RBF tag.

We have a FLIR pod and Laser Tracking pod coming form the Academy kit.

The external fuel tanks will go one under the center-line pylon and the other is already glued under the pylon 6.

An inert CAMT-88 Harm from the Academy kit is glued under the pylon 7.

Last but not least is the ACMI pod Type C attached to the right LAU-7 launch rail.

This pod is a little gem produced by Bandit Resin Factory... a must for my Legacy Hornet!

The airbrake vane is detailed and painted.
