Wow, what a great response! Thanks to one and all for the recent comments and generous likes. Without wanting to single anyone out, I do want to say to Matsu that it is very special to receive a "Cheer" in Japanese!

Lud, lots of polishing is the key! Three coats of well thinned Tamiya acrylic paint, buffed with 6000 micromesh, then two layers of X-22/leveling thinner which is buffed with 6000 and 8000. The trick is not to take the paint off the high spots while polishing, which I didn't always get right :rolleyes:. Look carefully at the photographs.

Whoa! More models should be finished like that, the combination of selectively applied 'stressed skin' and this semi-gloss surface strikes me as much more convincing than the usual flat coates ...:ph34r:
