vvwse4
Time for something else. I pulled out the Tamiya kit which had been on the alley for many years and got started with it. I have some aftermarket, the Aires cockpit and seamless intakes and burner cans but I do not know who made them, a great book for references and I have some MK82 Snake Eyes coming from Eduard. DSCN2099 by Rick Martens, on Flickr DSCN2103 by Rick Martens, on Flickr DSCN2104 by Rick Martens, on Flickr It should turn out in one of these two planes, haven't decided yet which one Untitled by Rick Martens, on Flickr Untitled by Rick Martens, on Flickr So far I installed the intakes and the splitter plates and I have made a modest start with the cockpit. DSCN2102 by Rick Martens, on Flickr The modest start with the cockpit was mainly spending a lot of time on my knees trying to find part number 1 which I dropped. Offcourse the carpetmonster was ruthless. DSCN2108 by Rick Martens, on Flickr Maybe somebody has a spare? And a question, what would be the load on a Marine Phantom, I have the Snake Eyes and on what kind of pylons would they go. Are the kits pylons good enough? Did the Phantoms use Sidewinders or Sparrows in combination wth droptanks an bombs and how did that look? I have seen a lot of beautiful Phantoms over here and I hope I can get close to one of those. vvwse4
First update. Have been working on the Aires set which was fun to do, I am getting the hang of it. And ran out of CA glue.... DSCN2164 by Rick Martens, on Flickr DSCN2165 by Rick Martens, on Flickr The seats are ready for paint now DSCN2169 by Rick Martens, on Flickr DSCN2170 by Rick Martens, on Flickr Front and rear canopy, the hinges from the rear canopy were missing I scratched it but I am not happy with the result so I have to redo that later. Also do the mirrors later. I places the canopy's with tape to protect the PE which is quite fragile. Because the windscreen was busted the store where I got my kit gave me a new set of clear parts so I have a spare to go. DSCN2172 by Rick Martens, on Flickr DSCN2173 by Rick Martens, on Flickr Tail assembly with the two lightbulbs in there ( Thanks Chuck540z3 ). Why there is a sink mark in that spot I will never know but I fixed it DSCN2174 by Rick Martens, on Flickr DSCN2175 by Rick Martens, on Flickr And I have started to spice up the landing gear. Remember the missing part? I emailed Aires and got a reply from David Lajer and they will sent a replacement. How about service!! Thank you Aires. Rick. vvwse4
Calling the cockpit done. Offcourse most of it will be inviseble but I know it is there. DSCN2406 by Rick Martens, on Flickr The dial for the arrestor hook filling point is also done exept for the clear part. I have been thinking about the load under the wing. I was thinking of putting two TER with 6 MK82 Snake eyes with the long fuses on the inboard pylons, the tanks on the outboard pylons. On the center a SER with four MK84 ( I found them on the Eduard site and I figured they were close enough to a MK83 ) Is that close to reallity? Hope you like it. Rick. Squizzy 78
Very nice work on the pit, and the rest is shaping up to look like a masterpiece! Have you made a decision on VMFA 232 or 451 yet?

AlbertD
I’ve been doing research and buying aftermarket for this same kit. I’ve been buying books, looking at online images and videos. I plan to do mine as a land based USMC plane too. That seems to give us more options than a ship based plane. We can load em up pretty heavy where it wouldn’t work off a carrier. So far I’m thinking of putting 2 Zuni pods on each inboard pylon, MER’s on the outboard pylons loaded up with probably Mk 82’s and a centerline fuel tank. I have seen pictures of this configuration with or without 2 sidewinders on each inboard pylon and 2 sparrow missiles on the aft positions. its surprisingly hard to find good pictures of loadouts. There always seems to be something in the way of a clear view of everything.
spyrosjzmichos
Great start! The cockpit's looking nice but was wondering why the green hue on some areas?

The green hue was an attempt too make black less black....it did not work out as I thought it would but I did not wanted to start all over. In the end it will be not visible so I just let it be this way. spyrosjzmichos

If I can offer some advice, when black is involved, I usually prefer using Vajello's NATO black as a base and then a very dark grey like dark sea grey for the "highlights". Any variations of the above should work fine. Oldbaldguy
vvwse4
Some progress. I think I am making every mistake in the book with this one but so far I fixed the most.
