F-18E Revell

Building the F-18E and am in the final stages before i attache the windscreen etc can anyone tell me if the canopy and windscreen of an F-18E Hornet is tinted and if so what colour, Gold, Smoke etc.

Clear.  Only Navy jet I can think of with tinted canopies was the EA-6B.  Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, especially in the Navy, but it is safe to say that Bugs' clear parts are clear.

Not even the EA-18G Growler has tinted canopies, which seems strange since the EA-6B had them, supposedly to protect the crew from the emissions from the ALQ-99 jammer pods, the same ones carried on the Growler.

Then there's the S-3 Viking, but we'll worry about that dark tint when we get a kit...

While here, like to know more about the build there Kevin!

Some of us are still contemplating purchase rather than rejection.

I think the F/A-18D “Night Attack” hornets may have gold tinted canopies but I’m not entirely sure.

The indium tin oxide "gold" coating was removed from F-16Cs as it interfered with the performance of night vision goggles.

 

I'm hoping Revell have tweaked the moulds a tad in time for the F/A-18F release this summer — time will tell.
