Recieved this during last week and just wanting a pretty simple OOB build I decided to crack on with it.

After looking over the sprues it definitely has the feel of a short run kit with detail generally being a little soft in most area's. A nice little PE set is included as well as canopy masks and a resin prop should you choose to use it.

The Argis engine built up nicely but didn't spend to much time over it as not much will be seen.

Also managed to get the cockpit floor built up this morning ready for some colour to go on.

Also had a fit of the main fuselage halves and glad to say it's a pretty good fit as is the rest of the kit so far.

I was looking through the SOD early in December and came across the 108 which I quickly stalled on when I first started it. Fast forward and when Joachim (Fanes) mentioned giving Quinta Studio 3d decals a try I ordered a set for the 108 as well as a couple of other Eduard bits and pieces that have since been released.

I wasn't happy at all with my work on thee cockpit walls before I shelved it a d with the Quinta Sttudio stuff in hand .ade a start on reworking things.

and so off with the Uschi decals and sand down any raised detail in readiness for the Quinta Sttudio decals.

Eduard etch added to the rear bulkhead and sidewall decals added.

All a bit clean but very happy with the look now, these Quinta Studio decals work beautifully! Feeling very lazy using them but definitely add something to this build, just need to work out how to weather them now!

Happy New Year to you all.

With some decent bench time this new year I have also painted up the Argos engine assembly

Not that much can be seen, also  some trimming away towards the nose to get the fuselage halves to fit was needed

Eduard will have you glue the engine in place and leave the nose off till  the final stage but be careful with that as the engine firewall is a sloppy fit and if not careful you will end up with the engine to far forward and the nose section won't fit! I got everything in place nicely once I realised what could happen and pretty happy with the general fit.

I then fitted the instrument panel assembly which has the Quinta panel fitted to it

Need to complete the cockpit tub and once that is together the rest of the airframe will come together very quickly on what is a very pretty looking aircraft.

I'm finishing up an Ark Models 1/48 Lavochkin La-9 that came with Quinta decals and I am a convert. I love them and it's great to see them being used in your 108! Great progress!

Hehe I felt the exact same way :D

As to weathering: maybe a protective clear coat follow by some oil colours?

Yes definitely,  I was thinking an acrylic clear coat followed by an oil wash.

Posted (edited)

So the rest of the Quinta Sttudio decals added today which was basically the seat belts.

So, I quite like the Quinta stuff and they perform just perfectly  However the seat belts lack a lot of definition and don't pop 3d to me! I'm interested to see how the whole cockpit weathering goes but I think this cements my favourite way to go cockpit detailing and stick with Airscale and a bit of scratch detailing.

Some nice down time this weekend and have the cockpit completed.

Very happy with the toning down of the Quinta side panel decals with oils and Tamiya panel line wash.

So far so good, pleased with the general look of the cockpit so now for the wing ti go on but probably best to have a test fit of that massive greenhouse of a canopy first!

Working on getting the fuselage completed today and after a few dry fits it was clear the upper wings needed to be glued to the fuselage first before fitting the lower wing, very short run!

One thing I've noticed on this build so far is that Tamiya extra thin doesn't touch this plastic but their extra thin fast drying works very nicely!

While the upper wings were drying attention turned to the canopy glazing, Eduard have done a superb job with this and it's very thin, super clear and equally nice to cut without any brittleness.

This is turning out to be a very enjoyable, rewarding build after initially shelving it last year!
