Hello LSP_K2,

are you still working on this long-lasting project?

Asking because I was working on „X7“ for some time but made a pause of a year and a half right now.

Best regards,

Nils

Looking forward to September.
I got this as next vehicle to be finished on my list. However I think it will take another two years or so.

Yes and no.

It took me a lot of time to get the existing information arranged.

I gave up to make a 100% correct build - it‘s too much to do and a lot of things you‘ll never see again - so want is worth doing it and what can be dropped is the necessary question.

I found some nice interior pics of the three left tanks. Forget about the Bovington tank - it has the Porsche suspension and additionally was a testing vehicle - so interior arrangements differ from serial ones (MP-holder for driver).

The two MP40-holders are completely missing.

I did some details on the driver seat and other stuff but not finished yet at all!! I‘ll add some pics

Reworked inner structure (roof holder bracket) on the side armour plates.

This is important for correct arrangements of breath tube containers, lights and intercom boxes. Otherwise it would look strange.

These are just some of the construction sites.

Just keep calm and make your choice and decision what must, can or is nice to be corrected. And then at what level of detail you want correct it.
Anyway this is not a short time project…

Wow, excellent. From the beginning I had no intention at all of messing with the interior (I sent most of the interior guts to a forum buddy), so that I could concentrate solely on the exterior. I've seen a few fellas going totally nuts on the interiors of these big tanks, but it just doesn't appeal to me. My approach to the Panther, Panzer IV and StuG III will be the same, exterior work only.

That’s a wise decision and I can fully understand that.
I choosed this way because for 3 main reasons. I will build this large kit only once in my life.
Next much more important is that I also like historical research and I found pretty nice information (plans & drawings of the Jagdtiger, a NARA report on „X7“, Battle Report for Obernetphen) and literature for that vehicle and it’s Canon. So I know the faults of the kit but also what it should look like. For me the build itself is only one of several topics. „X7“ was shot and abandoned in the neighbour town where I live now and my plan is to put it on a diorama with the possibility to remove the roof an engine deck covers..

However already the exterior is a lot of  work. I built the Hobby Boss Tiger I kit - that already took me 3 years time.

Do you want to build a particular vehicle?

Enclosed some pics of my exterior work:

Yes that are the little details…

It is never too late - only harder.
The top hinge pins are not the deal. For the others I would suggest to use a long drill set. I got a drill set from Ø0.5mm in steps of +0.1mm til Ø2,0mm. Each drill is 100mm long and smaller Ø-drills are a little „flexible“ so to say. You can drill „around the corner“…;)  for the lower ones.

Or you drill out all the hinge pins and replace them with scratch build brass tube ones.

I'll just leave them as-is. Very few will ever even notice that they're wrong.

I agree - very few would have noticed that - but now it’s out and we everybody here know it …;).

Finally they are not „really wrong“ - only the level of detail is not that precise:innocent:

BTW was it you looking for details of the mud guards? Still an Open issue?

Regards, Nils

No, not me. I think I already know what I really need to regarding the guards themselves. Actually, the only question I ever had (that I can recall), was how do the strips connect one section to another. I've never seen a photo or drawing of the strips themselves.
