I've never read anything about those cones but I think they're for anti-vibration.

I think under the right (wrong) airflow angle the wire could set up a vibration

like a plucked guitar string.

Makes sense Mike, although many other aircraft don't have similar. Always wondered about them...

I don't think the Matchbox designers could believe their kit would ever look this good.

Thanks Jens, I appreciate your kind words!

Very very impressive Kirby, well done (it does also show that matchbox got it pretty well right with the overall shape of the model).

Derek

They sure did, thanks very much Derek!

Kirby, you did a wonderful job in finishing this vintage Matchbox kit with the latest painting and weathering techniques!  It can hold its own against any modern kit!

Thanks very much John, I really did have a lot of fun building this old girl!

This is some excellent work!   So many times we look at things like the wells and decide we "cant" live with them OOB, when in reality, this one turned out as good looking as any 109.  Tremendous work on weathering and paint, it really paid off!

Thanks a lot Brian, if the model has good bones I think you can always make something out of it that takes the focus away from its shortcomings.

Me too. I've only seen them on a few German a/c, Bf109, Bf110 and He111.     ???

I've gone back three times now looking this build over. Matchbox did do a fine job on this mold. Your efforts certainly are nothing short of brilliant Kirby.  Well done Sir!

Thanks very much Troy, appreciate your kind words - it certainly was a fun experience with this old kit!

I agree with Mike said about the cones, They are anti-vibration (sway) cones.

I also have seen on Bf109, Bf110 and He111 too.

Superb work on old kit!  I really like it!

Regards,

Matsu.

Well, there you go! I always thought they were insulators.

That's right Mike, there seem to be 2 bakelite insulators at each end with the cone thing covering the rear-most.

Thanks Sabre and Matsu!
