Hey Nic,

I know it's a bit late but I found some Hobbydecal left over.... in perfect shape.

Thanks so much for the offer but between the F-15E decal sheet and the Silhouette Cutter I wave managed to do the national insignia and almost all the stencils.

Not much modeling today. It is workers day , so the wife put me to work in the garden and cleaning the house. I did get a bit of modeling done.

Finishing small pieces. The AOA probes made from steel pins.

The canopy jack from Tamiya looked a bit plain, so a replacement was made.

And in position.

The canopy frame is very plain, so I added new  mirrors and wire for the shoot lights.

Finally an exercise in masking and patience. (Of which I do not have a lot)

Done eventually

Cockpit done.

Tomorrow a few touch ups and a base, then she should be complete. Then re-arranging the display case.

One more detail with the Silouette cutter. The Duch Decals I have been saving for this build was totally unusable. I bought them about 20 years ago and I suspect it is the age of the decals that caused the problem. I think some decal sheets just do not age well. I copied the details onto AM clear decal and used some of that. It came out with a some pixels showing, but looks good from normal viewing distances. The circle around the dog's head was also cut and masked. I fortunately found a good photo of the subject to digitize the mask from.

And with that the build is done. Only to post on RFI.

Great work, and reminds of a time in the late '80s when an F-15 and F-16 were dogfighting right above my house at the time. It was a clear sunny summer early evening, and I can still recall the sudden roars when the burners were on and pointing earthward.

As a bit of trivia, I was always confused by why Soesterberg used the CR tail code, when all the other USAFE units had letters related to the base's name (BT=Bitburg, ZR=Zweibrucken,  AR=Alconbury etc.). Turns out it comes from Camp New AmsteRdam.
