1/32 Hasegawa P-40N-1 Warhawk “Ruth A”

This is 1/32 Hasegawa P-40N-1 flown by Lt.G.L.Walston, , 16th FS 51st FG, Kunming, China 1944.

( Note that the aircraft lacked the national insignia on the top of the left wing.)

Base kit is 1/32 Hasegawa P-40M with some after market modifications.

Cockpit modified by Eduard PE set.

Exhaust stacks and wheels replaced with Eduard resins.

Decals are from Eduard P-40N Warhawk kit.

Paints :Gunze Sangyo acrylics.

Nice.  I thought the rear cockpit was different than this on the 'N'.  I thought the back deck was slanted and the glazing was a 'rectangular' single unit.

No,

First version of the N's had early style canopy. New style canopy started to be used in P-40 N-5 variants.

P-40N originally was an attempt to build a lightweight version of the Warhawk. The wing racks were deleted, the oil cooler and radiators were made of aluminium instead of brass and internal fuel was reduced to 120 gallons by removing the forward reserve fuel tank. Magnesium smaller wheels were used. 

First 3 production blocks had only four machine guns in the wings. But later in the field most of them changed to std 6 guns.

P-40N-1 was the fastest of all production Warhawk variants with top speed of 378 miles per hour.
