Hobbyboss F-84G Thunderjet

Primer on - in this case my trusty Halfords car primer grey.

This was left to harden for a few days and today I've polished back with a 3200 grit MicroMesh pad - which is throwing up a few flaws I need to attend to...

OK - so no updates for a little while - but I have been prepping the surface and any joints so that there's a good base for the natural metal finish to follow:

I may be criticised for working on too many projects at once - but it's what works for me, and gives the best output - I think my brain needs to constantly change from one subject to another, or it gets bored!  :)

Have fun!

Oh, I so second that.......

Awesome work Iain!

Super smooth.....

I am 180 deg opposite.....if I have more that two (sometimes more than 1!) models going at one time, I get frustrated and lost where I am from project to project. Very jealous!

2 is about absolute max at any one time for me.

For some reason, probably related to the fact I never finish my Group Build entries, I thought I'd missed the end of this one, and was about to move to Work in Progress - but - looks like it's not over yet!  :)

With some quiet time I thought I'd take a break from the mighty Andover and pick up on some of my other projects - the Thunderjet being one.

I've been putting off the natural metal finish - last one I did that I was happy(ish) with must have been 30 odd years ago, using Heller Silver enamel - 9008?

Then I had a few attempts with Alclad and, quite frankly, didn't get on with it - but that was me, not the product, as I've seen stunning results by those that can handle it.

I've been getting good results on small components using Xtreme Metal - so thought I'd give it a go.

Here's the model after one coat - and a little rectification.

She's sat on the patio table hardening off at the moment - before a rub over with some kitchen towel (to remove any loose surface material) and a quick second layer of Xtreme Metal 479 'Aluminium'.

Have fun!

Looks promising.  Just beware leaving Tamiya masking tape on the Extreme Metal for too long.  Somehow it reacts with the adhesive of the tape and leaves adhesive on the surface that is hard to remove.  A coat of waterbased clear will protect it.

Found out the hard way and trashed a Tamiya Spitfire MkI that way...

After a few tweaks to areas that weren't up to standard under the paint, I've sprayed another couple of thin layers and she'll now be left for a few days before I do anything more.

Have decided I really like working with the Xtreme Metal - it's very forgiving.

Final finish will be toned down - I want to portray a working Cold War jet, rather than a hangar queen!  :)

Brilliant Iain, very impressive! I will now buy one of these - on an opportunity basis - on the strength of your build (no prizes for guessing which markings mine will be completed in! ;) ).

Regards
