Driving in my wonderful country... NSFW!

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Have a look at that: the Belgian car taxes system seen from California.

Please use discretion as this video has some F-bombs in it and is NSFW

The worst or best part is the fact everything they say is 100% true!

Crazy world...

wow, and I thought England was bad. Stuff like this makes one really appreciate where one does live. So, if Belgium has all these unesseccary taxes, I guess it's appropiate that the European Parliament is there??  Regards, Pete in RI.

All of Europe is blighted with crazy charges and taxes. It has nothing to do with the EU. It is all historic, going back to the old old days when all serfs had to pay dues to their lords. Remember how America started their fight for freedom over taxes? Well, we never got that freedom in the Old World, in many ways our taxation systems are medieval.

Well, we all know that and are regularly complaining about the load in comparison with the average quality of our public services. But when it is discussed by people from the other side of the world, it really gets another flavor. This makes you wonder about the fact what is considered as normal or acceptable may be very relative!

Personally, I cannot really complain that much as, even if I'm paying all those taxes, I'm also one of the guys who is lucky enough to own a company car and from a taxes perspective, this is far better in comparison with the normal citizen...! By the way, it is quite interesting to see that all the people who are not in that situation are considering we have a not acceptable privilege rather than considering we are just paying a more reasonable amount of taxes! Again, according to the standpoint, things are quite relative!

By the way, I did not want to open a political can of worms with that topic, I just wanted to illustrate how we see things differently according to where we live.

Something along the same lines: in the UK rail operators have to have trains with disabled access/facilities yet the company responsible for the stations do not, so for example where I live there are very few stations where you can access the platform in a wheelchair, but yet despite limited parking spaces, some are specifically for disabled people - I know not everyone who is disabled is confined to a wheelchair, my mother has alzheimer's / vascular dementia and has spacial awareness problems when it comes to stairs, but it should be access for all. Just a farce, clowns in positions of power.

But Thierry, you also have to admit all these taxes in Belgium are being used to improve the transportation/road system.................NOT!!!

Guys, everything Thierry told you is sadly true, i live about 60 miles north of him, in the Netherlands, and though we have only one governmental system, tax wise it isn't much better, you guys in the States e.g. would completely go nuts over gas prices which are going balistic again: average price for a litre gasoline is about € 1,75 overhere, multiply this by 3,8 and you have €6,65 for a gallon which in dolari would be $7,40.............and that's only the gas.

(That being said i feel my country is the worst country to try and hold up a PPL, again costs and taxes, but ofcourse this has nothing to do with the subject at hand)

Drive on people,

Jack.

Hey guys,

Just one little heads up here. The mods have talked things over on this, and have no issue with links to a vid with F-bombs,  of course as long as no F-bombs appear on the forums themselves  ( and of course no vids with porn, animal cruelty, actual violence, etc).  I've just slightly modded the initial post to reflect it being NSFW.

Thanks!

Grass is always greener... blah blah!

Give a thought to the tragedy in Australia and stop moaning while driving your company car.

whoah hold your horses, going THAT way, you should also include some parts of Africa, and other parts of "critical parts" in the world, and indeed grass is always greener blah blah, but that is just not the subject of this (more or less funny) video, it just marks the essential PROBLEM  in your country, get over it and accept it.............

I know exactly what is wrong, let the government do something about it..................ok, i'll stop the rant!!

well, that's actually right about putting it, don't feel offended about it, it's just a fact that's pretty difficult to blend in into the belgian general public acceptance/opinion on just such an issue.

Believe me i know,  living close to the boundary i can feel much the same!!!

Actually I find it quite interesting to see how we all live. I don't see this as a political discussion, more of a comparison one. I am Yorkshire by birth, moved to the USA when in my 20's. I visit home and family every couple of years so get a regular "update" on life in England. But I know nothing of everyday life in other countries so this type of discussion is nice and informative. Please everyone, lets keep it as such. I thought Thierry's initial post quite revealling and informative. Regards, Pete in RI.  ( as for the Australian disaster, I have a brother-in - law with his family in Melbourne and an Uncle in Cairns).
