upscale 1/48 to 1/32

To go from 1/48 to 1/32:

Measure the item you have in 1/48 (metric or imperial) and then multiply by 48 - that gets you to 1/1.

Then to go to 1/32, divide your calculation by 32.

eg. I measure a dimension of my 1/48 piece as say 50 mm. Then multiply that by 48 gives me 2400 mm in the real world  = 1/1.

Then to get to 1/32, divide 2400 by 32 = 75 mm.

Brendan's method is excellent, and also shows that if you want to go from 1:1 to 1:32, simply divide the 1:1 measurement by 32 (or whatever scale you're aiming for).

If you want a generic multiplier to work with, 1/32 scale is 1.5 times the linear size of 1/48 scale. So, simply multiply your 1/48 scale measurement by 1.5 (or 150%) to arrive at the 1/32 scale figure. This is especially useful if you have 1/48 scale plans, and want to enlarge them to 1/32 scale.

Thanks Kev. The method I showed allows you to calculate any scale from any other, so good luck with the maths everyone!

Whilst the above methods do work, scaling up to 1:1 from 48th or up to 32nd from 48th will in both instances mean any issues with the  48th part are also scaled up....,

small measuring mistakes will be exacerbated when enlarging and then reducing, best option is to scale down from 1:1 dimensions or larger scale parts, just divided any 1:1 linear dimension by 32

For 1/32nd scale, 1/32 of an inch equals 1 inch.

If the real item is 12 inches long, it would be 12/32" or when reduced, 3/8".

Enlarging 1/48 by 150% will get you 1/32 scale.

If an item in 1/48 scale is 48 inches long (1 actual scale inch), it will be 1 1/2 actual inches long in 1/32 scale.
