Okay, if a U-2 is such a bad idea, how about a Viggen?

Recommended Posts

How many Viggen have seen combat?  Have they been in any movies?  Has Tom Cruise been seen with a Viggen and cool aviator shades?  Will the 1.5 million modellers in the PRC even know what a Viggen is?  Friggen Viggen!

There's your Poo Poo Platter, Jennings...

The Viggen comes in multiple flavors with lots of pretty colors. You can have an AJ or a JA or a recon or a marine version or a trainer (me like) and paint it in the best color scheme there ever was (Swedish Splinter). It has some wonderful siblings that also cry out to be kitted. The Draken comes in several flavors too, but you can paint it in nice national symbols like a Danish Dragon or Danish flag, an Austrian flag, a Swedish skull in a top hat or with a bull in Finn colors or just in a simpler multi-tone green scheme. The Draken is a bit more boring in colors, than the Viggen but has more than a few users. Don't forget the early Saabs, even the 105 trainer with a splinter camo and bright day glo red patches. That should really wake up your eyes.

Can you tell that I like Saabs? Don't own the car, but have loved the planes forever. Yes, I am still waiting for a 29.. anyone, Fly, anyone?

Maybe the absolute best reason to kit a Viggen is that Mr. Cruise never flew one? Nor did Val Kilmer nor Anthony Edwards... but Mr. Eduards did make that hilarious comedy "How I Got into College"... that and St. Elsewhere.

I can't poo poo that idea.

One of my all time favourite aircraft. So many cool memories of them on the air show circuit, going back years.

The brute power of that engine. Watching one reverse down the runway after landing so it could take off using the same runway. I'll never forget seeing one pilot doing a 3 point turn with one. YouTube clips of them using Swedish highways as airstrips. That's not to mention the finest camouflage scheme ever!

I'd sell most of my stash for one, especially the 2 seater.  Probably too many other types waiting in the line before any manufacturer gets to one but you never know. Agree with the Draken as well, very underrated and to my eyes a beautiful aeroplane and lots of great colour schemes. Maybe Tom Cruise didn't 'fly' it but he Viggen was one of the few fighters that could get a good intercept on the Blackbird and even escorted one in when it got into trouble, that should earn more respect then being a movie star.

If you have ever HEARD a Viggen go away with the RM-8 on full afterburner, you wouldn´t care a bit about Tom Cruise, Top Gun or such silly matters!

Viggen was one of the worlds best fighters during the cold war and the only fighter that ever intercepted  a SR-71 Blackbird and took a photos to prove it!

Viggen was never used in anger, that´s correct, but it was very close several times, the Baltic region was a dangerous place during the cold war.

I would love to get a Viggen, Draken, SK105 or Gripen in 1/32 and can´t wait until Fly get their J-29 Tunnan out!

Cheers!

It was only used by one Air force, never took part in any conflicts.

When Tarangus released their kit there were rumors of them producing a 1/32 kit, I emailed them to see if their was any weight to it, they said they would consider it depending on sales of the 1/48 kit, I think you have your answer, sadly.

I'd love one, Draken also.
