Out2gtcha
Thanks boys! Got a slow start to paint last night, and got the base insignia white on for the base of the home defense bands. I'll be putting the base white for the leading edge bands on after a later base of aluminum: The white really messed with the balance since the rest of it was all black. On to painting the Hinomaru, fuselage stripe and 53rd Sentai ans 93 on the tail. Then its on to an aluminum layer then the yellow leading edge stripes and camo. nmayhew
Brian great build as always! what’s the stand you are using? I need to get something that is fit for LSPs - my current one used on my Jug is a bit crap Out2gtcha
Out2gtcha
Thanks gents! Nick, It's an Artograph 1530. Best thing I've ever purchased for modeling behind the Silouhette cutter. However I just learned that Artogtaph discontinued it for some reason. Back in a min with some pics........
Out2gtcha
Ok, this weekend progress: Made some final size adjustments to the overall scheme and printed it out on the Silouhette (53rd Sentai tsil mark had to be shrunken later): Harder to see, but the cuts that get made are super fine: Hinomaru masks applied and the red shot: The Hinomaru turned out really well, but this is where I noticed how way too wide the fuselage home defence band was, so I shrunk it considerably per documentation: More......... Out2gtcha
53rd Sentai tail marking applied which was WAY more of a PITA than I had imagined, as the full right position of the rudder made it difficult to align: Ready and masked for some aluminum. This will also tell me where my remaining flubs are: That's all for now folks! I'll likely spray some aluminum here in a bit after the liquid mask sets up around the white boarder around thr 53rd Sentai markings. Cheers! Out2gtcha
As one last follow up to this I do believe after looking at my chosen grey color, it was light enough, but almost too light and with not enough of a green tint. After some experimentation, I mixed up a combination of about 25/75 MRP Sky, and Mig-31 grey. This was not a super drastic change on its own, but once seen with earlier sprayed straight Mig-31 grey, it gives a much better IJA grey/green look I was looking for: Aluminum under layer up next, then leading edge yellow bands, then camo time. turbo
Nice Brian! Yep, that IJA grey/green mix looks better. Out2gtcha

Out2gtcha
Yes indeed, sorry Nick, I had it in my mind you were asking about the paint booth stand part, not the JH Models stand. Yes, Mike is correct, UMM is the place I got mine from. Not sure where the best place in the UK would be, but just make sure you get the 1/32-1/24th version. The 1/48-1/32nd version is just a bit too small for larger LSPs IMHO. MikeMaben
Landrotten Highlander
I got mine directly from JHmodels, as at the time there were no UK stockists who had it in stock. http://www.jhmodels.eu/plastic-models/model-stands/no-3201-stand-new/ I got the 1/48 and 1/32 stands as depicted in this thread. They also have a version more geared towards biplanes (now in BOTH scales, not just 1/48). Very pleased with the stands AND the service. Highly recommended Out2gtcha

Highly recommended Do you have the 1/48-1/32nd stand, or the 1/32-1/24th stand? I only ask, as I thought the prior was decent sized until I got the later. Its freaking massive. I love that it supports much larger models, but it takes up a damn lot of bloody bench space.

I got both stands, as I do both 1/48 and 1/32 scales. Most of the smaller 1/32 planes - such as my Caudron - I could do on the smaller stand, but like you said, the 1/32-1/24 stand is massive and particularly useful for the jet-era, as these birds are typically much larger. For example, I coul do the Caudron on the smaller stand, but my current build (Fischer F9F-8T would be a bit too big for that stand - as would be the things like F-15 or A-10 in 1/32 as well as the larger birds in 1/48 such as Heinkel 111, PBY-5/a or Stratofortress the larger stand is much more useful. I also have the smaller biplane stand - not used it yet, but I will at some point in the future. Should work nicely on the stuff I got as I imagine that in the 1/32-1/24 range it will also be massive, but then again so will the airplanes be (i.e. much too large for the smaller stand). I reckon it pays to think about what you would need it most for, and go with that option - but that is purely my opinion. Out2gtcha
