Revell Fw 190

Recommended Posts

Ok I am in the build with this one. Basically out of box and markings of JG 54 in the Courland Pocket . I will start as soon as the F-16 is finished.

I seem to have help at removing the plastic bags already.

The Moggy is also a "nightfighter" :yahoo:

Thanks for all the interest guys.

My assistant is a real night fighter, chasing cats twice his size from the yard. He is more of a disruption than help but at least shows some interest in my modeling.

Hi Alain

No the F-104 is almost done, the F-16 almost ready for painting. You know I run about 5 projects simultaneously at different levels of completion.

Hi Fillipo

I am doing a straight A-8 of JG54. The cat is not quite black but a more fitting Gunship Grey.

Cheers

While waiting for paint to dry on the F-16 I decided to start with the Fw 190

The first thing was to add blast tubes to the wings.

The outer tubes did not look right. I realized that Revell had made the cut out for the outer guns to fit the center of the wing where on the real FW the guns are below the center of the wing.

I added an ignition harness to the engine. I know the BMW 801 has two spark plug leads per cylinder but since I will build mine with the cowling closed ,not much will be seen behind the fan anyway. Just a bit more to add a bit of interest.

The engine is pretty good out of the box and possibly the best radial I have seen. The Tamiya Corsair is probably better but I have not had eyes on one.

I have closed up  the wing and joined the two fuselage half's. I wanted to attach the engine and cowling to the rest of the fuselage before fitting the wings as I think this way will be easier to get the cowl fitted. I had to sand the rocker covers a bit to get the engine to fit.

After fitting all the pieces around the engine I think the Hasegawa kit is easier if you want to fit the cowling closed. The Revel kit will be great if you want to open the cowling.

The Revell kit has some very good features and apart from the above observation not much to choose between the kits.

Trouble in paradise?

The difference between the Revell and Hasegawa IP . I will have to think a bit about how to proceed with the IP. Maybe cast a copy of the Hasegawa IP if it fits.
