Marine104
Fantastic work Nick, really enjoying the thread, saving it for future ref too. I have a RNoAF F-16A planned one day, I just wish Tamiya would release this kit again! David Cheetah11
Cheetah11
I finished the IP. The decals I tried to use for the instruments cracked up as I tried to apply them, so back to old techniques and a fine paint brush. Fortunately not much will be seen behind the pilot’s legs. I also added a bit on the seat. And all painted up and closed. Cheers Nick themongoose, Madmax, johncrow and 8 others

I have similar problems with decals placed in recessed instrument faces Nick. There has got to be a better way. I will experiment with my F-104 when I get around to it. Cheetah11
The F-16 is back on the bench after the Fw distraction on the group build. I also had a very busy work schedule the last two weeks. The tail is now fitted and the model almost ready for painting. The AIM-9 launchers below the wing were sourced from the Academy Sufa kit. I did not realize the size difference until I had glued the wingtip launchers to the wing, otherwise I would have copied the Tamiya ones. A bit of plastic card reduced the size difference and with missiles on will hopefully not be noticed. I also added plastic card bolts to the Hasegawa wheels to make them a bit more realistic. Thanks for looking Nick Greg W, Dutch Man, johncrow and 7 others
Cheetah11
A small update. Looking at photos of the F-16A the static dischargers seem over scale on the kit. I do not know if they changed to the C or if it is only a molding limitation. I changed this by using .3mm wire which look more in scale. In the photo they still need to be trimmed to length. The ones on the wings and fin I will do as soon as the model is complete , in case my clumsy side bumb them. Cheetah11
One more detail to do before painting. I plan to arm my F-16 with AIM-9P’s. There are no such missiles in 1/32 except for aftermarket items. With our post it is not an option. Luckily the AIM-9L’s in the Revell F-4E kit are the right length for a P but not for an L ! Using the missiles in the Academy 1/48 F-4C as a reference I shortened the back fins by 2mm and scratch build the front fins. Only painting remaining now. Cheetah11
The Aim-9p missiles are done. I had trouble determining the color and position of the color bands as every photo on the net has a different take on it. In the end I looked at the most probable mid eighties config and went with that. The Aim-9L missiles were also painted in Neutral grey. The photos I could find of the period showed them to be darker than the modern day Light Compass Grey. I will still decide on painting the color bands or using decals. In the mean time I cut strips and the refueling receptacle markings as I have not been successful with the long and thin decals on the no step walkway markings. I measured the lines on the Hasegawa decals and cut .85mm strips. No problem with the Silhouette cutter. Cheetah11
Another milestone reached. Paint on but still a lot of small details to finish. I fortunately found a photo of the aircraft in period , so details like the missiles and helmet as well as the cammo pattern before a repaint could be at least accurate. The suspense about the scheme is also over. Enjoy Edited March 6, 2020 by Cheetah11 Spelling J.J., kkarlsen, Fanes and 6 others
