Cheetah11
The carpet monster swallowed part B25 and since I still have a bit of time before heading home I made new one. Needs a bit of filler when I get home but should be ok. Cheetah11
A day at home before back to work allowed me to paint a few details so that I can assemble the fuselage. I could not figure from reference photos which of the hinges on the slats to remove. Once home I had a look at this FSM for the right answer . Thanks Pete ! The Tamiya cockpit is great out of the box but I will add a bit more even though I will put a pilot on the seat. First thing is to replace the hud with a leftover from the Sufa kit. I will later configure the HUD to Block 15 config. Youngtiger1
Nice work Nick. It would be nice to have a F-16A Out if the box by Tamiya. Wishful thinking for sure. Cheetah11
Cheetah11
A bit more work done on the cockpit parts. (The Honey do list and work now interfering with my modeling big time.) The Academy HUD was not going to fit well without a lot of adjustment, so back to fitting the Hasegawa IP onto the Tamiya part. The instruments looked a bit small, so I drilled them out and cut discs with the punch to get the faces to the right depth. Started with this After putting discs in. The Hud almost complete And test fitting to the rest of the cockpit. The AB nozzle fitted well but still had the joints visible. On the F-15 nozzle it was a pain to fill, so I cut strips of Tamiya tape to hide the joint. It worked well, but in future if I had to do this again I will use thinner vinal. BTW anyone else having problems with Postimage? Enjoy Nick Edited November 28, 2019 by Cheetah11 Additional text Kagemusha, Lothar, LSP_Kevin and 6 others
Cheetah11
Work and a few other activities have slowed the build a bit.I am still planning to finish it before the end of the year. My F-104 is almost finished but as always the last details take more time than anticipated. Anyway I could do a bit of work on the F16. I looked over the internet for reference and clean forgot the photo I had, giving me clear shots of an F-16A in service condition. I painted the Intake section Neutral Grey after mixing the color using Tamiya lacquer colors. I fortunately had a few color chips which I found at a closing down sale in the late eighties. I used the chip and lightened it a bit to compensate for a wash and scale effect. Hopefully more progress next week. Cheetah11
A bit more work done yesterday. I had hoped to get the model done by the end of the year but we will see. At the moment just too busy at work. Here are the wheel bays done. I used a photo of the Aires set. A few differences between the set and the walk around photos but I will leave it as is. I did the drop tank in the mean time as well as the aft section of the fuselage. I think this is a poor design by Tamiya as it is impossible to to eliminate the seam and keep the detail intact. I considered using a spare Academy or Hasegawa part which both are moulded without a seam but the cross section is just too different for an easy fit. In the end I used different colors to simulate the rings on the part. Not perfect but I will live with it. Cheetah11
A little more progress. I had hoped to finish this before the end of the year but it is not going to happen. Maybe early next year. Test fitting everything before joining the top and bottom. And done.
