Lost British Projects & Icelandic Fine Art are to release a 1/32nd BAC TSR-2 3D resin kit

Not a lot of detail (pardon the unintended pun) just yet, but hopefully the project goes ahead and produces a fine kit.

I got the Airfix kit, and was so disappointed it wasn't a straight scale-up of their 1/72 kit (having its incorrect middle aged spread ahead of the intakes) I rapidly got a Dynavector replacement which is far more accurate in capturing the look. I'll perhaps use the Airfix one as a Vigilante-style intaked version what-if at some point.

 

But it'll be big bugger in 1.32, and I think I'm over my TSR2 fixation now.

in resin this thing will weigh about 20kg!

 

this is an iconic subject for so many of us Brits - representing all that was good about our aerospace and ingenuity, and also the worst possible traits of British self-destructive socialism of the 60s and 70s (to this day, no-one has owned up to giving the order for the destruction of all the jigs used in TSR2 construction)

 

never having heard of these guys though, I am very much 'believe it when I see it', but an announcement is better than nothing!

I don't think it will be too heavy unless they actually cast it in resin.  From what I have seen on Rikki's other projects, it is 3D printed (stereolitography - liquid resin cured by laser), so there is no reason to make a massive fuselage.  I would think the kit would provide shapes and main panels only, leaving the modeller to add most of the surface detail.

ok so I have trawled their FB page a bit

 

they are making 1/48 Valiant coming out before Xmas supposedly... if people will buy a 1/48 B-17, then I think the same sort of crowd would be willing to drop back down to 1/48 for something like this

 

if the price is right, I certainly would

 

which brings me to the price of the TSR 2... they are looking at £500+

 

I told them that's bonkers - it would need to be perfect (and I mean perfect) for that money, so that means exceptional detail AND fit.

 

I said they won't sell more than a handful at £500; drop it to £250-300 and they would sell a truck load

 

they need to think about profit on each item sold, not trying to recoup tooling and development costs in about 10 units sold

Thats a HUGE CAD project, let alone the printing and casting.... Expect an equally huge price, or they won't last long!! Fantastic project of course, will watch with fascination!

For 3D printing - assuming that Rikki sticks with 3D printing as he has done for the other projects - there are no tooling costs.  However, 3D printing (stereolitography) is a slow and expensive process, and the CAD work required will be quite a task.

i am still in the "show me" camp on this one

 

i haven't actually seen anything from this firm in any scale yet

 

fingers crossed, but my bet is it doesn't actually come to fruition, at least not in the form of what most of us would consider a LSP...the owner / FB page admin seems quite muddled in his thinking about what the end result is going to be...lots of talk of 'desktop model' meaning solid / no interior etc

Hi all

Muddled indeed!!! theTSR 2 plans are being tweeked we are working on the U/C at  this time as we dont want to upset any one getting it wrong!!!!! do we.

Lots of work as its big and yes we do produce (desk top type models) that was the idea from the start as it just gets to pricey to produce some of these kits and we think people out there can do justice with there skills and knowledge and produce a fine model using our ideas as a start.

The whoe idea was a model that would have been on the desk of some designer at the time not an airfix etc type kit, we have done a few models and the 1/48th victor series is going well see peterborough model show pics we want to have some fun and produce stuff that no one else will.

There are just three of us and it is for me a hobby for martyn its a business and ben the designer its a a new start.

We realy want to produce some nice models in 3d resin&plastic materials the resin we use is 100% bio degradable plant based material so doing our bit, Price is difficult we aim to try and keep it down I ask myself would you pay this much?? so we will try to do our best and make stuff that will sell.
