T-B-17 finished

I'm doing it again!

I discovered a Revell/ Monogram 1/48 B17 G in a stash I'd forgotten about under the basement stairs. The box still had cellophane shrink wrap on it!

While awaiting supplies for my MH-60S I decided to have a go at a simple build but, then got the idea of sticking turboprop engines on it in a kind of anti Luft. 46 theme. I'm hoping to just have fun with it, remove the un-needed radial engine parts such as super chargers etc. I doubt I need to add that this will not be a historically correct model!

Wish me luck...

I'm going with an updated new and improved...well different color for the interior, basically making it up as I go along. I mean if it's going to have turbine engines does it matter if I get the interior the wrong color? I went with a variety of grays in the office and zinc chromate yellow/green for the rest. My idea is that this is a fast pressurized bomber and therefore smooth and free of impediment, with that in mind I've deleted or, am deleting the waste, bottom ball, top and cheek guns positions. I'll keep the tail and nose defenses

I've got the fuselage closed up (May I say right here the fit of this kit from the 1970's can shame some modern kits!) the left...port side? engines are faired in and nearly done, with a bit of panel scribing and repair needed as yet. It looks from the pictures to be a pretty good fit (going by the small amount of filler?) but there's a few hours of sanding so, looks may be deceiving. Right side fairing in is underway.

Thanks for looking in, and comments.

I've got a bunch of painting done, I go through a lot of masking tape here for some reason! In any case I went with a mixture of gray's and blues for my camouflage scheme. I mottled the paint to represent cloudy skies then, my version of "false canopy" painted on escort fighters.

the main wings are just snapped into place right now, but a tight fir in any case.

As always, thank you for taking time to have a look

Glad it meets approval!

It's a great project to just let my imagination go on, that's for sure.

I've added some detail painting to the P-51's and a gloss coat is up next in anticipation of attempting decals

I ruined a mold for my new props so, that's back in the loop again for revisiting

Nearing the end of this crazy build!

I added some of the gun barrels I'd deleted from other places and put them in the nose as a rotary cannon type gun. In the rear end I added bigger barrels to simulate different weaponry in the stinger (big bad stinger!) with barrels from (ironically enough) the 1/32 B-17G which were replaced on that kit with brass barrels. The (Diesel truck) exhaust pipes are installed and exhaust soot  added, more weathering is needed, I have left the wings un-glued to accommodate storage and travel.

  • chrish changed the title to T-B-17 finished

Here's the last couple of pics. I finally got the props finished and fitted, it makes for a different looking B-17...I wonder what the engines would look like on a PBY/Canso...
