Nice!

Although you might have a coronary trying to install all those stencils

Ha! I do have some leftover Verlinden dry transfer stencils that may work for this. Maybe some, judiciously placed, might actually look good if they are not to overscale.

I just enjoyed all 3 pages of this build.  I really enjoy creative little projects like this where you have some freedom to turn the kit into whatever you want.  I have never made one of these egg planes but I do find them appealing!

Keep up the good work.

I am glad you are enjoying this too! My hope is that more of us will have fun trying out this sort of thing.

So, I haven't received a response from rose-ridge.com regarding the decals I was after, time to engage Plan B. One of my fellow club members is creating a decal of the squadron symbol on the tail for me. I have some Woodland Scenics dry transfer numbers that will work for the tail code and numbers on the side of the fuselage. The Model Art Profile book on the F-4EJ provided the information needed to make the squadron symbol.

The pilot and seat taken from the Tamiya 1/32 F-4EJ kit, with a little more detail, ready for primer. The harnesses are made from masking tape. The back side of the tape is coated with thin super glue and pressed into position. The super glue gives the tape some rigidity so that it does not curl or krinkle over time.

Most everything inside the cockpit will not be seen but just in case, I've added some Mike Grant 1:48 scale instrument decals to at least have some detail if after all, the instrument panel is visible when looking through the canopy. It's tiny, look at it next to the pilots head...

The initial colors are being blocked in on the pilot/seat, pictures taken after the first painting session. I've used Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics for the base painting. After the touch ups are finished, a acrylic clear flat will follow. Then, washes, dry brushing, detail painting and some Air Scale decals to finish.

What an amazing build. This is exactly how fun is defined.

What's next? Maybe an F-14 with a Tyrannosaurus a la Calvin and Hobbes?

What a great idea! I would actually enjoy doing that, as well as a Space Man Spiff ship. Food for thought...
